Quickest Detection
Cambridge University Press; Cambridge, UK; 2008; 0521621046; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 247 x 174 Mm
The problem of detecting abrupt changes in the behavior of an observed signal or time series arises in a variety of fields, including climate modeling, finance, image analysis, and security. Quickest detection refers to real-time detection of such changes as quickly as possible after they occur. Using the framework of optimal stopping theory, this book describes the fundamentals underpinning the field, providing the background necessary to design, analyze, and understand quickest detection algorithms. For the first time the authors bring together results which were previously scattered across disparate disciplines, and provide a unified treatment of several different approaches to the quickest detection problem. This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the basic statistical procedures for change detection from a fundamental viewpoint, and for those interested in theoretical questions of change detection. It is ideal for graduate students and researchers of engineering, statistics, economics, and finance. Contents 1. Introduction 2. Probabilistic framework 3. Markov optimal stopping theory 4. Sequential detection 5. Bayesian quickest detection 6. Non-bayesian quickest detection 7. Additional topics. Printed Pages: 244. 027722

A Tibetan English Dictionary (Enlarged Edition)
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2012; 8120803213; Enlarged Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The pesent Dictionary is an attempt to give a rational account of values and meanings of words in Tibetan language, to distinguish the various transitions in periods of literature and varieties of dialect, and to make sure of each step by the help of accurate and copious illustrations and examples. The author has not restricted himself only to the Classical Period of the Tibetan literature. He has endeavoured to deal with the Tibetan language as a whole. His dictionary derives its matter and sprinciples equally from the literature and from the speech of the people. Each word has been made the object of observation in its relation to the contents as it occurs in books, and in its value and place among others when it is used in common conversation. But in the latter case it has been an uphill task, since the spoken language has as many dialects as the country its provinces. However an attempt has been made to define the rangeand fix the meaning of current words far as possible. A number of diacritical marks have been used, following the system of Prof. Lepsius, for the exact pronunciation of Tibetan letters and words. The marks are of manifest description and cannot be startling to any general reader. The book is documented with Introduction which contains Tibetan alphabet, phonetic table for comparing the different dialects, abbreviations and the method of pronunciation. To increase its usefulness, the author has added at the end an English-Tibetan Vocabulary which will be welcomed by the reader and will be welcomed by the reader and will be serviceable to the general ause of learning the Tibetan language.Printed Pages: 693. 102580

Encyclopaedia of the Synthesis of Science Philosophy and Religion, 5 Vols
Chaukhamba Publications; New Delhi, India; 2006; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The aim of this work may be thus stated: to show that Nature is not “a fortuitous concurrence of atoms,” and to assign to man his rightful place in the scheme of the Universe; to rescue from degradation the archaic truths which are the basis of all religions; to uncover, to some extent, the fundamental unity from which they all spring; finally, to show that the Occult side of Nature has never been approached by the Science of modern civilization. This scheme, it must be added, was not in contemplation when the preparation of the work was first announced. As originally announced, it was intended that the “Encyclopaedia of the Synthesis of Science, Philosophy and Religion” should be an amended and enlarged version of “Isis Unveiled.” But it is perhaps desirable to state unequivocally that the teachings, however fragmentary and incomplete, contained in these volumes, belong neither to the Hindu, the Zoroastrian, the Chaldean, nor the Egyptian religion, nor to Buddhism, Islam, Judaism nor Christianity exclusively, Enclyclopaedia of the Synthesis of Science, Philosophy and Religion is the essence of all these.Printed Pages: 2587. 100677

This book further analyses Lord Krishna?s counsel to Arjuna to bring him out of dejection and refusal to fight. BG 2.7 may be regarded as a seminal verse in the history of religion and philosophy. Clusters of Gita verses dealing with different themes in Lord Krishna?s counselling have been constructed. These Gita Mantra clusters have the stamp of the Holy, being the spoken words of Lord Krishna, the Avatâra. Besides, many of these ideas like of Unattached Action agree with contemporary thinking. This book is expected to be a practical guide for persons suffering from fear of death and dying. It may also direct the reader to a higher spiritual life, for the BG deals with death in a positive manner, as a milestone on the path to immortality. Intellectuals may find the present analysis of the Gita structure around the themes of Death, Work and God as simple and logical. The delivery and reporting of Krishna-Arjuna Dialogue have also been discussed in a rational, logical manner. These Gita verses are non-sectarian and universal in nature and may be read without prejudice by persons of all faiths. Printed Pages: 184. 110057

11357 H.C. Ray; Foreword By L.D. Barnett
The Dynastic History of Northern India (Early Mediaeval Period)
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2017; 8121503302; Reprint; Hardcover; New; New; 16.5 Cms 25 Cms
The Dynastic History of Northern India: Early Mediaeval Period is a comprehensive account of the history of northern India between the tenth and the twelfth centuries AD. This period, which is characterized by transition and the presence of various regional dynasties, marks the beginning of the end of the Hindu dynasties and the gradual establishment of the early Muslim rule in northern and western India. Prof. Ray has admirably marshalled the details of events of the period to present a continuous history and has bridged the gulf between the Hindu and the early Muslim (Turkish and Afghan) periods. Whenever necessary, Prof. Ray has overstepped chronological limits of the volume in order to present a continuous history of the dynasties and kingdoms. VOLUME I, deals with the period of transition intervening between the decline of the Gurjara-Pratihara empire and the Muslim conquest. It contains detailed enumeration of the dynastic history of Sind, Kashmir, Nepal, Assam, Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, the Sahis of Afghanistan and the Punjab, Gahadvalas (Gaharwars) of Varanasi and Kanyakubja, Rastrakutas, and the later Gurjara-Pratiharas of Kanauj. The entire evidence, as available from contemporary epigraphs, coins and literary sources, including also the Persian and the Arabic works, has been fully utilized by Prof. Ray in reconstructing the historical details of the Period. VOLUME II, deals with the history of the Candellas, Haihayas, Kachwahas-Paramaras, Chaulukayas, Chauhans, Tomars and the Guhiltos, as derived from the epigraphic, numismatic and literary evidence, besides the Jaina tradition and the Persian works. Prof. L.D. Barnett, in his foreword to the book, writes, ‘No such comprehensive work in the domain of Indian history has yet appeared, and Dr Ray deserves credit as much for the boldness of his design as for the skill and industry with which he has executed it’. Dr Ray has added to the utility of the work by providing each volume a detailed index, maps, bibliographies, genealogical tables and appendices on certain subjects and aspects requiring separate discussion. Dynamics of Urban Life in Pre-Mughal India
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1986; 812150001X; First Edition; Cloth; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
The present study is based on the theory of social surplus which continues to be "the best working hypothesis" to test some of the complex social and economic problems like the one at hand. An attempt has been made to study how social surplus determined changes in society and economy, created class consciousness and shaped the relationship between the producers and the consumers at the urban and rural level as well as gave rise to trade and commerce with all its ancillary consequences. As the surplus was concentrated in the non-agricultural zones with a densely populated and clumped nuclei of houses, the growth of urban centres was its concomitant. These urban centres were primarily a class-based society arising out of the disproportionate distribution of shares of the social surplus. The towns were not merely princely fortified camps superimposed, as Marx remarks, upon economic structure of our society, it had its own dynamism and was closely linked up with its surroundings. It gave a fillip to the emergence of a new ruling class who did not own the land but controlled and enjoyed its fruits. Ideology of this dominant ruling-cum-appropriating class through various mechanisms exercised firm grip over the minds of the people. We have tried to underline this fact within the framework of conflict, adjustment and reconciliation between the ruling class and the people. Connected with these is the question of the extent of cultivable land in our period of study. It has been shown in the present work that the theory of "abundance of land" does not hold water. This has led us to concentrate our arguments on the hypothesis of the intensive nature of cultivation which gave rise to the most difficult task of procurement and distribution of grains to the urban population. How demographic changes brought about mobility among the people and what role the monetary system played in the urban economy and society, have been closely examined here. Delhi has been taken as a case study to highlight the interplay of these forces to illustrate the dynamics of urban life in pre-Mughal India. Printed Pages: 271. 001176

The narrative is diligently pieced from the study of man's environs and remains at Harappa. Ahar, Malwa, Jorwe, Southern Neolithic and other cultures. It presents in a absorbing manner the indomitable courage and remarkable ingenuity displayed by man in subjugating the primordial environment. The illustrations enhance the perspicuity of the text. Prehistoric and Historic Archaeology of Gujarat
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1987; 8121500494; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 19 x 25 Cm
In the present work Prehistoric and Historic Archaeology of Gujarat, Dr. Sankalia has presented a critical review of the new discoveries in the prehistoric, proto-historic and historic archaeology of Gujarat since 1947 to the present day. The work is mainly based on his own explorations, for example at Madasa on the Banas. It is an exhaustive study of the Early Stone Age tools, rock-paintings, Buddhist stupas and images as well as temples, their architecture and iconography, and images of Gujarat from c. AD 200 to AD 1300. A special feature of the book is the critical study of the place and personal names from inscriptions of Gujarat. The study shows how Gujarat Mandala was formed in the ninth century, and thus regarded as a separate cultural province. It has taken nearly one thousand years for India to be reorganized into linguistic provinces. The book is sufficiently provided with line diagrams and half-tone illustrations. Christian World Imprints/B.R. Publishing Corporation; New Delhi, India; 2016; 9789351481317; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The book highlights a comparative study of Wesley’s pedagogy and purpose in relation to Education, with that of Paulo Freire, a 20th century Brazilian activist, philosopher and educator, and a leading proponent of critical pedagogy. While re-examining Wesley's perspective in the light of Freire's critical pedagogy, the book exposes striking similarities between the two. As per their belief, education should not be oppressive, and not to be employed in molding learners in accordance with the exploitative system of the given society. Printed Pages: 277. 110823
