The title of this work may perhaps be open to objection as too comprehensive, seeing that there are many Chiefs in the territories administered by the Punjab Government, bearing the title of Raja, whose histories have not been here included. But the author`s object has not been to record the biographies of reigning families so much as to give a connected account of the political relations of the British Government with the Independent States of the Punjab from the commencement of the present century. A Christian Response to Human Cloning: Edenic Eve versus Clonaid Eve (Christian Heritage Rediscovered: 8)
Christian World Imprints/B.R. Publishing Corporation; New Delhi, India; 2014; 9789351480167; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
Human Cloning, by virtue of its achievement in the field of Medico-Science, has sparked a big controversy across the globe. In the contemporary world, being a global village, no one can claim to be untouched by it. It won't take much time to succeed in its attempt to creep into human society as the other discoveries and inventions have done in the past. Nevertheless, Religion has never left Science all alone to move on as it wished to make its way into the human society. Religion being the core of human society has always checked such developments, some time due to her vital role in the society and sometimes due to her legal doctrines that never allow her to think otherwise.The objective of this Book is to scrutinize the development in the field of Human Cloning in the light of its intentions and implications on marriage, family and the larger society. The Author has attempted to compare the first mother called `Edenic Eve' from Christian literature, with that of `Clonaid Eve', the first claimed Human Clone from the field of Science. Also, a critical analysis of different paradigms of ethical discourses leading to a fair criticism of Human Cloning has been provided thus befitting it to be a study in the field of Christian Ethics, for Libraries, Researchers & Students alike.Printed Pages: 120. 106416

Hostage Rescue Manual
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2010; 9789380502021; First Edition; Softcover; New;
The HOSTAGE RESCUE MANUAL is a comprehensive guide to the strategies which have saved hundreds of lives in hostage incidents all around the world.Hostage rescue has become an increasingly prominent part of the war against terrorism, with international units training intensively to respond to the tactics of ‘hostage-takers’. While media coverage tends to favour the drama of high-profile evacuations, it remains a little-known fact that the success of a rescue usually depends on the hours leading up to confrontation. Once suspects and innocents have been contained by authorities, responsibility for ending the incident rests largely with the negotiator, whose job it is to unravel the motives of the hostage-taker and achieve a peaceful solution.When negotiations fail, the entry team assault the site, to resolve the situation by a combination of force and skill. Weapons expert Leroy Thompson explains the rationale behind using different types of entry, including the pros and cons of ‘stealth’ and ‘dynamic’, the importance of diversionary devices, and how the approach changes when recovering ‘voluntary’ hostages in a barricade situation.We learn about the complex calculations made by the sniper in his ‘hide’ and explore operations against widely differing locations, from nuclear power plants to airlines. Leroy Thompson also provides full details of the special-purpose ‘kit’, weapons and ammo vital to the success of the rescue team.Printed Pages: 192. 104419

Bodyguard Manual (Revised Edition)
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2010; 9789380502014; Revised Edition; Softcover; New;
Although military operations against terrorist forces often grab the headlines, the men and women who protect celebrities and government, military and business leaders from assassination or kidnapping are also in the frontline in the war against extortion and terrorism. Ready and prepared to place their body between their employer and a bullet, the bodyguard must be able to blend into the background, yet be ready to spring into action instantly to counter an attack.Based on techniques of the US Secret Service, US State Department Security, the Special Air Service, the Royal Corps of Military Police, the Metropolitan Police, the KGB and its successor the FSB, France’s GSPR, and other protective unites around the world, the Bodyguard Manual details the steps a protective team takes to prevent attack, as well as the tactics that are employed when it is necessary to counter an attack. From providing security aboard in Orient Express or the Queen Elizabeth II, to protecting a high-ranking officer in combat, the Bodyguard Manual allows the reader to ‘stand post’ with the professional bodyguard.Printed Pages: 208. 104420

The Counter-Insurgency Manual
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2010; 9789380502007; First Edition; Softcover; New;
World-renowned expert in the fields of counter-terrorism, hostage rescue and VIP protection, Leroy Thompson has now produced the most up-to-date guide to counter-insurgency. His experience both in the field and in training showcases the latest methods and technologies available and this fully illustrated book reveals many of the secrets of his trade.Counter-insurgency is fast becoming one of the most important aspects of police and military work around the world, with forces often deployed at short notice to fight against an ill-defined enemy. With this in mind, Leroy Thompson describes the techniques best employed in a variety of situations, all illustrated with pictures and explained with examples of their use. He stresses that the primary concern in every situation ought to be a ‘Hearts and Minds’ style operation comprising an attempt to achieve objectives without the use of force – it is only after all such possibilities have failed that the use of force should be considered, and then only by highly trained special forces operatives. The very political nature of counter-insurgency operations means that operatives are often working under extremely tense and delicate circumstances. The operations are often extremely violent and short-lived, but Thompson emphasises that they must be part of a wider significance for anyone with an interest in world security.Printed Pages: 192. 104421

The Bodhisattva Doctrine in Buddhism
Sri Satguru Publications; Delhi, India; 1997; 8170305632; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
Heretofore studies of the Bodhisattva doctrine in Buddhism the basis of Mahayana Buddhism have concentrated on Sanskrit sources. The distinctiveness of the present volume lies in the variety of languages and cultures in which research has been done. Traditionally, a Bodhisattva has been understood in view of the Buddha's former lives or as a superhuman making his way toward the enlightened state. The eleven studies making up this volume indicate a need to question uncritical acceptance of such interpretations of the Bodhisattva doctrine. Although the studies are scholarly, they are nonetheless accessible to laypersons as well as scholars and should prove to be instructive for both.Printed Pages: 293. 101140

Security Perception and China-India Relations
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2009; 818796698X; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
As China and India are rising simultaneously, the implications of their relations have far gone beyond the bilateral level. The past few years have especially witnessed a worldwide increasing interest in this relationship, and heated debates have developed over such issues as follows: Has there been any substantial change in the China-India relations since the end of the Cold War? If there has, what is the driving force behind it? And what will characterize this relationship in the future: rivalry, alliance or cooperation? It is exactly these questions that Security Perception and China-India Relations attempts to address.In this book, Li Li, a Chinese scholar, starts her study on China-India relations with a new approach. By introducing Constructivism, a mainstream school of IR theory that emphasizes the role of ideas in international politics, Li Li examines how a changed security perception on both sides has led to the easing of tensions and a remarkable improvement in the bilateral ties of China and India after the thirty years of a “cold” relationship.With the help of a vast body of literature, including important government sources as well as secondary ones, Li Li explains how security perceptions of China and India have respectively transformed the Cold War mindset to the new security perspective built on comprehensive national strength and cooperative security, and explores the concept's influence on their mutual policies. On basis of her analysis, Li Li also predicts the way in which China and India could ensure their simultaneous rise in the coming years and decades.Printed Pages: 198. 104439

The Chinese Neolithic: Trajectories to Early States
Cambridge University Press; Cambridge, UK; 2004; 0521811848; First Edition; Hard Cover; Brand New; Brand New; 20 Cms x 26 Cms
This book studies the formation of complex societies in prehistoric China during the Neolithic and early state periods, ca. 7000–1500 BC. Archaeological materials are interpreted through anthropological perspectives, using systematic analytic methods in settlement and burial patterns. Both agency and process are considered in the development of chiefdoms and in the emergence of early states in the Yellow River region. Interrelationships between factors such as mortuary practice, craft specialization, ritual activities, warfare, exchange of elite goods, climatic fluctuations, and environmental changes are emphasised. This study offers a critical evaluation of current archaeological data from Chinese sources, and argues that, although some general tendencies are noted, social changes were affected by multiple factors in no pre-determined sequence. In this most comprehensive study to date, Li Liu attempts to reconstruct developmental trajectories toward early states in Chinese civilization and discusses theoretical implications of Chinese archaeology for the understanding of social evolution. Contents 1. Setting the scene; 2. The changing environmental contexts of China’s first complex societies; 3. Household subsistence and ritual; 4. Spatial organization and social relations in communities; 5. Community burial patterns; 6. Development and decline of complex societies in the central plains; 7. Development and decline of social complexity beyond the central plains; 8. Trajectories toward early states; 9. Reconstructing social processes. Quick search Advanced search... Edwards Sketches in Scinde
Aryan Books International; New Delhi, India; 2004; 8173052697; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 51 x 28 Cm
The portrait of this distinguished officer was taken on the late expedition across the desert against Bejar Khan and the Hill Chieftains,--the country is contiguous to Scinde, but belongs to the Khan of Kelat, and is called "Cutch Gundava," where the cold is at certain periods extremely intense, hence the upper Spencer or garment of sheep skin, which forms so prominent a part of the equipment. This was very generally used by our troops in the Afghan country, being warm, light, and readily procurable. The cap resembles the helmet now worn by the Prussian infantry, and like the new infantry cap lately introduced into our army, it has a projection behind to protect the poll of the neck. This is an admirable likeness and the signature attests the approbation of Sir C.J. Napier. The Governor of Scinde and Beloochistan has occupied a large share of the public attention as one of the glorious Chiefs of our Indian armies. In February, 1843, he fought the battle of Meeanee against the Ameers of upper and lower Scinde, on which occasion the whole of the enemy's artillery, ammunition standards and camp with considerable stores and some treasure were taken. The loss on the part of the enemy was supposed to amount to five thousand, while the British force lost two hundred and fifty-six, killed and wounded. In March he fought the battle of Duppa, against a force of twenty thousand men of all arms, with a result not less triumphant. Any detail of the services of this brave and excellent soldier does not come within the purpose of a notice like this; his most signal triumphs are fresh in the minds of all, and enough is known of him to show that the name of Napier and Victory are united in a knot of laurel which the sword of no enemy shall sever. From Freud to Jung: A Comparative Study of the Psychology of the Unconscious
Shambhala Publication/TBI; New Delhi, India; 2001; 1570626766; Softcover; New;
This comparative study of the basic concepts of Freud and Jung is designed to give a comprehensive understanding of Jung's work. The author traces the development of Jung from his initial fascination with Freud's ideas to his gradual liberation from these powerful concepts and the final breakthrough into his own unique theories of man and the cosmos. Jung's fundamental view—that the psyche is a totality of conscious and unconscious elements that seeks to realize itself—stands in sharp contrast to Freud's early view of the psyche as primarily the effect of prior causes. Hence Freud tends to stress the pathological, whereas Jung looks to the creative and self-transcending aspects of human nature. The final section of the book describes the development of Jung's ideas after the death of Freud, particularly his concept of the archetypes. Printed Pages: 368. 111028

Together Under One Roof: Making a Home of the Buddha's Household
Wisdom Publications; Boston, USA; 2009; 0861715543; First Edition; Paperback; New; 15 x 23 Cm
In Together Under One Roof, Lin Jensen turns his keen eye and powerful prose explicitly to the teachings of the Buddha, to traditional Zen stories, and to the practices of meditation and compassion - as well as the intricacies of everyday language and the natural world, truth and beauty, family, and the myriad ways our simplest actions affect our whole lives. His previous two works, memoirs of growing up and growing old and of the hard-won but gentle wisdom gained in his daily public meditations for peace, were both critical successes earning a special place in readers' hearts. This book takes up symphonic variations on one main theme: we are all "in it" together, we are all living under one roof - and there's always a glowing hearth right here in this, the Buddha's household.
