M. N. Krish’s novel The Steradian Trail: Book #0 of The Infinity Cycle has just been released in India by Westland Books to rave reviews. It is a highly original mystery-thriller that unravels hidden connections between computers, technology, religion, culture and an intelligent crime that will wow readers.When the MIT professor of computer science, Joshua Ezekiel comes down to India for an academic visit, little does he know that this particular trip is going to be memorable in more than one way. Professor Lakshman, Joshua Ezekiel’s long time friend and batch mate is going to be compelled to take on more than what he thought he was responsible for, when he got instated as Head of the Department of Computer Science of a prestigious technological institute of the nation. Divya, Professor Lakshman’s brilliant protegé might have made a breakthrough, pleasantly surprising her mentor. But convincing her mother that she needs to concentrate on her work instead of learning how to cook or stringing together prayer notes is not going to be an easy task.The Steradian Trail: Book #0 of The Infinity Cycle opens with a murder that sets everything into motion. The events lead Joshua, Lakshman and Divya through a confusing yet enthralling maze of secrets and revelations. Himalayan Buddhist Monasteries
Roli Books; New Delhi, India; 2005; 8174363777; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New; 9 x 11 Inches Thomas L. Kelly
Transporting the reader to the spiritual realm of lamas—most of it sequestered within the forbidding territory of the high Himalayas—Himalayan Buddhist Monasteries gives us a glimpse of the mystical, vibrant and serene world of Buddhist monasteries, locally known as gompas. Buddhist ceremonies, funeral and reincarnation rites, prayer rituals, festivals and dances re-enacting sacred historical events are captured in scintillating detail in this book with exquisite photographs and a vivid text. The historical evolution of the gompas in Tibetan art, architecture, education and their socio-religious functions in the life of the people are thematically examined. The sheer breadth and variety of images of monastic life in Bhutan, India, Nepal and Tibet, covering the entire gamut of Buddhist sects makes this book unlike any other. Printed Pages: 144. 013649

Human Resource Development: Radicalism in the Service Sector
Gyan Books Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2000; 8121207223; Hardcover; New; New;
The Book has dealt with two issues. The Study of HRD Radicalism in the service sector is important in the current scenario, as the Economies will have high dependence on service sector by the year 2010 and beyond. This is evident, from the statistical fact that the share of primary sector in GDP has declined to less than 30 per cent as compared to 73 per cent in 1947 and of Manufacturing sector has stagnated by 25 per cent in the last two decades while the contribution of tertiary or service sector to GDP has gone up to a whopping 45 per cent or so from less than 10 per cent five decades ago. It is therefore, significant to study the HRD issues of those sub-sectors within the service sector which have high Employment and growth potential such as Telecommunication, Banks and Railways. If these Organizations have to keep pace with the rest of the Economy in the Times to come, they need to accelerate the planning and development process of their Human Resources as the onus of promoting employees lies with the organizations. Organizations need to realize that serious efforts on their part can bring about a substantial and Concrete difference. This book is an attempt to Focus on two major issues facing the service sector in General and the sub-sectors of Telecommunication, Banks and Railways. The first issue relates to the growth and development of service sector and how far the human resource engaged in the organizations related to service sector could be made productive and efficient and the second issue illustrates the degree to which Emerging HRD paradigms would bring reform in the Organization and employees in the service sector.Printed Pages: 362. 105945

Evolution of Raga and Tala in Indian Music
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2008; 8121504422; Reprint; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
Indian music, in its sojourn in space and time may be divided, in a historical perspective, into three phases: ancient, medieval, and modern. These may be regarded as ending approximately in the thirteen century, eighteenth century and our own times respectively. The present volume deals with such an evolution during the first phase of Indian music, viz., the ancient. The present work endeavours to set forth the conceptual evolution of two foundational and differentiating elements of India music, viz., raga and tala. Indian music rests on the tripod of raga and tala and prabandha. These represent respectively the sound, time and structural aspects of musical experience. Prabandha, in the sense of form, worded or otherwise, emerges from a matrix of raga and tala. These two characteristics differentiate Indian music from all its comperes. The work also studies Vedic music and music as depicted in Natyasastra Brhaddesi of Matanga and Sangitaratnakara. A brief survey of Western musical aesthetics and its practical variations is also a salient feature of this work. The volume traces the evolution of our music and shows how our musical traditions, in spite of several modifications and adjustments during the course of the centuries, have been maintained in essence throughout. A Higher Sanskrit Grammar: For the Use of School and College Students (Tenth Edition)
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2011; 8120801784; Tenth Edition; Softcover; New;
The present grammar has been prepared with a view to meet the growing educational need of university students. The author has done his best to bring the present grammar up to the requirements of the students. In writing the various chapters of this book, the author has closely followed Pannini, as explained by Bhattoji Diksita. Many of the rules given here are translations of the relevant Sutras of Panini. The original Sutras are given in footnotes, where necessary. Sandhis and declensions are fully treated; compounds which dominate classical Sanskrit literature have received special attention; formation of feminine bases has been illustrated; Taddhita affixes have been arranged in an alphabetical order. A special feature of the present grammar is the chapter on the "Conjugation of Verbs." The general rules given are amply illustrated by examples. All the verbs which change their pada when preceded by particular prepositions are given in an alphabetical order. The chapter on Syntax contains almost everything given in the first 20 chapters of author's Guide to Sanskrit Composition; the chapter on Prosody is based on the Chandomanjari and the Vrttaratnakara. The author has spared no pains to make the book as useful and as complete as possible.Printed Pages: 723. 102553

Ideological Wisdom in Islam
Discovery Publishing House Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2011; 8183567738; Hardcover; New; New;
Islam is the very first, as well as the final religion, gifted to mankind by Allah, the Almighty. It is a different matter that the Holy Messengers (Pbut) who brought Islam in various periods of time were distinct by names, physical appearance, places of birth and belonged to different cultural backgrounds. However, the mission on which all of them embarked was one and the same -- leading life strictly as per the injunctions of holy scriptures, endowed to them. If we go through the pages of Islamic history, from the very first period, down to the present hour, we would come to know that the teachings and do`s and don`ts by these various messengers taught their respective peoples, were almost the same, barring a few variations as for the requirements of the geographical, social or other conditions. The quintessence of the teachings of all the messengers (Pbut) was the same -- worship Allah, the Almighty, who is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient and has no partner, whatsoever. Besides it, the Prophet (Pbut) kept teaching their communities as and when required by the contemporary conditions, along with the evolution of human life on earth. In this way, we can say that Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) consummated the mission, which father of mankind, Hadrat Aadam (Pbuh) had started and which ran through a long chain, consisting of approximating one lakh and twenty-four thousand messengers and prophets. Thus, Islam which Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) brought as the last and final version is not only a religion but also a complete code of life. It has its own philosophy, wisdom and a distinct ideology. And that is the focal and central basis of Islamic wisdom. Chief sources of Islamic wisdom are the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Prophet (Pbuh). Thus, whole of the Islamic wisdom is based on prophet`s teachings after Holy Quran. The Missile Defense Controversy: Technology in Search of Mission
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2011; 9789380502380; First Edition; Softcover; New;
The Missile Defense Controversy is the first book to cover the ballistic missile controversy from its beginnings in the interservice politics of the Eisenhower fifties to its conclusion in the post-September 11th era. Identifying the cultural factors and specific administrative agendas that have shaped the way we view ballistic missile technology, Ernest J. Yanarella illustrates how pro-missile initiatives reflect America’s need to seek the illusion of absolute security, an imperative that grew out of the country’s largely Protestant notions about worldly evil and redemption. Three new sections connect our recent, sudden shifts in foreign policy to ongoing historical patterns.Printed Pages: 286. 104389

Sense, Sensex and Setiments: The Failure of India's Financial Sentinels
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2011; 9789380502496; First Edition; Softcover; New;
Sense, Sensex and Sentiments is a compelling story of seemingly unrelated aspects that drive global as well as Indian economics today – a global regime that allows proliferation of tax havens, national economic policies that are simultaneously the cause and effect of corruption, corruption that eventually results in money laundering, money laundering which, in turn, sustains the economics of tax havens, reverse flow of money from tax havens that causes the boom and doom of markets across continents, exaggeration of boom and exacerbation of doom of the markets being aided and abetted by sections of the media and intelligentsia and, finally, the inexplicable but unpardonable apathy of the regulators in India. This work seeks to explore the symbiotic link between all these issues and the state of interplay between the factors that govern the stealthy flow of money to and from tax havens. It also examines in depth various policies of the Government of India that aid and abet such transactions and the reasons why these are rationalised by sections of the intelligentsia. It also brings about the overarching debilitating impact of such stealthy flows to and from tax havens on the national economy, national security and domestic markets. Sense, Sensex and Sentiments, in short, warns how our markets run the risk of degenerating into rigged casinos. Consequently, it seeks to pitchfork into the national debate, perhaps for the first time since liberalisation of the Indian economy, the issue of how we need to refashion our economic policies so as to make our markets functional and efficient.Printed Pages: 364. 104391
