Sociology: Essays on Approach & Methodology (Second Edition)
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2009; 0195698843; Second Edition; Paperback; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
These essays reflect André Béteille’s central concerns as a teacher and scholar of sociology. They examine the nature and scope of the discipline including its distinctive conception as an intellectual pursuit and its relation to associated fields of anthropology, economics and political science. The substantially revised second edition re-emphasizes the author’s standpoint that sociology as an intellectual discipline should be concerned more directly with the present than the past. In addition to his central concern of comparing societies and the social significance of tradition, Béteille engages with the ideas of sociologists like Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, N.K. Bose and M.N. Srinivas. Lucidly written, the book enhances our understanding of the social framework in which we live. Essential reading for students and researchers of sociology, anthropology, history and political science, this volume will also interest the non-specialist reader. 034002

Marxism and Class Analysis
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2007; 0195686969; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New;
Marxism has played a crucial role directly and indirectly in the development of social analysis in India. This collection of essays by Andre Beteille addresses the contemporary significance of Marxism in the study of society, polity, and economy. The problems of inequality, class, and conflict in India are discussed with special reference to its agrarian social structure. Marxism has often been identified with what is described as the class approach to society. While recognizing the historical and contemporary relevance of class, the essays in the substantive part of the book deal with other sources of inequality and conflict, and their relationship with class. The analysis also brings out the diverse and changing meanings of class within the Marxist tradition itself. It presents accounts of inequality and conflict at various levels of society: village, district, and region. It also provides an overview of the changes that have taken place in the concept of and approaches to the study of class since the time of Marx. 019711

Krsna in the Harivamsa (Vol. I: The Wonderful Plays of a Cosmic Child)
D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2015; 8124608245; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
Written over a thirty-year period, the thirteen texts of this book — some of which have been updated, others translated from the original French — address various aspects of Krishna’s childhood in the Harivamsha. As a part of a continuous effort to better understand this oft-neglected complement to the Mahabharata, the present book demonstrates that these stories of Krishna’s childhood were carefully composed by brahmanas who knew fully well what they were doing. During the ten or so years he spends as a herder in the forest surrounding Mathura, Krishna prepares himself to kill the evil king Kamsa: when packs of wolves spring from the hairs of his body, he manifests his destructive power; he appears as a true avatara when he dives into the Yamuna to subdue the snake Kaliya; he reveals himself as a new Brahma able to create a new world when he uplifts Mount Govardhana with which he has just identified himself, then sheltering cows and herders in his own body. It is author’s contention throughout these chapters that these episodes cannot be dismissed as a hotchpotch of legends borrowed from the Abhiras or similar pastoral tribes. Neither does one do justice to the genre when one reinterprets the story symbolically, as if it were the product of an overactive imagination. Rejecting these positions, the author instead attempts to show here how these talented storytellers carefully crafted a narrative, often using material drawn from their own Vedic tradition, in order to address the new concerns of their audiences.Printed Pages: 370. 100543

Discerning the Spirits: Theological and Ethical Hermeneutics in Paul
Cambridge University Press; Cambridge, UK; 2007; 0521875943; First Edition; Hardcover; Brand New; Brand New; 228 x 152 Mm
How did Paul determine ethical and theological truth? Were all believers expected to be able to 'discern the spirits' (1 Corinthians 12.10)? This study shows that discernment must be understood against the backdrop of an extensive hermeneutic, by which Paul inherently relates ethical and theological knowledge. Understanding the will of God requires noetic and existential transformation, in short, the 'renewal of the mind' (Romans 12.2). Munzinger argues that Paul implies a process of inspiration in which the Spirit sharpens the discerning functions of the mind because the believer is liberated from a value system dominated by status and performance. The love of God enables all believers to learn to interpret reality in a transformed manner and to develop creative solutions to questions facing their communities. For Paul authentic discernment is linked to a comprehensive new sense of meaning. • Investigates Paul's understanding of ethical and theological knowledge, and how to 'discern the will of God’ • Offers insights from philosophy, psychology and sociology as well as from specialist New Testament perspectives • Relevant to pastors and lay people seeking Biblical guidance regarding difficult decisions Contents Part I. Introduction; 1. The conceptual approach; Part II. What Requires Discernment? The Objects of Evaluation: 2. The discernment of ethical questions; 3. The discernment of spirits; 4. Discerning all things. The Structure of Pauls epistemology; Part III. How Can and Should True Discernment Take Place?: 5. The context and background of Paul; 6. How does Paul believe true discernment can and should take place?; Part IV. Conclusion: 7. Recapitualtion and implications for theology. Printed Pages: 264 with 1 figure. 018644

Vac: The Concept of the Word in Selected Hindu Tantras
Sri Satguru Publications; Delhi, India; 1992; 8170303435; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 14 x 19 Cm
This Book is about the power of the Word. conceived as the main and most effective aspect of divine energy. It is the only systematic study in English of notions concerning the Word (Vac) as these are expounded in the shaiva tantras of Kashmir and in related texts. Padoux first describes the Vedic Origins of these notions, then their development in texts of different Tantric traditions. He shows how different levels of the Word abide in humans, how these levels are linked to the kundalini, and how they develop into articulate speech and discursive thought. He also describes how the universe is created out of the letters of the alphabet. The last two chapters explain the powers of mantras as sacred ritual utterances. These powers are described as magical as well as religious, because they can achieve supernatural results as well as lead to salvation. Their uses are linked to yogic mental and bodily practices.Printed Pages: 475. 101158

Dharma Patanjala: A Saiva Scripture from Ancient Java (Studied in the Light of Related Old Javanese and Sanskrit Texts)
Aditya Prakashan; New Delhi, India; 2017; 8177421670; Hardcover; New; New; 23 x 29 Cm
The book presents a thoroughly revised edition, English translation, and study of the Dharma Patanjala, an Old Javanese-Sanskrit Saiva scripture transmitted through a single palm-leaf codex of West Javanese origin dating back to the 15th century AD. The cultural and doctrinal background of the text, as well as its codicological and philological aspects, are introduced in Part I. Part II presents an annotated diplomatic edition of the text with facsimile reproductions of the codex on facing pages, followed by a critical edition with English annotated translation. Part III is a systematic study focusing on the interpretation of the doctrines taught in the Dharma Patanjala in comparison with related Sanskrit texts from the Indian Sub-continent and Old Javanese scriptures from the Indonesian Archipelago. The author of the Dharma Patanjala adopted a variety of Patanjalaastangayoga instead of the Saivasadangayoga that is common in other Old Javanese texts, and attuned it to a Saiva doctrinal framework. When elaborating his hybrid system, the author followed a commentarial tradition to the Sanskrit Yogasutras that is closely related, yet not identical, to that of the Yogasutrabhasya. The Dharma Patanjala also documents an early tradition of speculative texts (Tattva), which was previously known to us only through two Old Javanese scriptures, namely the V?haspatitattva and the Tattvajnana. This important text thus fills a gap in our knowledge of Saiva theology and philosophy in pre-Islamic Indonesia, and also casts light on the origin and development of Saivism in the Indian Subcontinent. ANDREA ACRI was trained at Leiden University (PhD 2011, MA 2006) and at the University of Rome `La Sapienza' (Laurea degree, 2005). He is Maitre de Confe'rences in Tantric Studies at the EcolePratique des HautesE'tudes in Paris, France. Prior to joining EPHE he has been Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor at Nalanda University (India) in 2016 and, since 2013, Visiting Fellow at the Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre, ISEAS-YusofIshak Institute (Singapore). He has spent several years in Indonesia, and held postdoctoral research fellowships in the Netherlands, Australia, the UK, and Singapore. He has received competitive grants and awards by the Arcadia Foundation/British Library, the Australian Government/Research Council, and the American Academy of Religion. His main research and teaching interests are S'aiva and Buddhist Tantric traditions, Hinduism and Indian Philosophy, Yoga traditions, Sanskrit and Old Javanese philology, and the comparative religious and intellectual history of South and Southeast Asia from the premodern to the contemporary period. Besides the Dharma Patanjala, his publications include the edited volumes Esoteric Buddhism in Mediaeval Maritime Asia (2016, ISEAS Publishing), From Lanka Eastwards (2011, KITLV Press, co-edited with Helen Creese and Arlo Griffiths), special issues of the International Journal of Hindu Studies (2013, Springer) and the Journal of Hindu Studies (2014, Oxford University Press), and several articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Tibetan Mahayogatantra: An Ethno-Historical Study of Skulls, Bones and Relics
B.R. Publishing Corporation; New Delhi, India; 2008; 8176466425; Hardcover; New; New;
Bone carving, one of the most ancient crafts of Tibet, is here treated in the context of Mahayoga Tantra. Since the first missionary reports from Tibet in the letters to Rome (17 - 18 century) the use of skulls and bones in Tibet was described as sorcery involving all sorts of magic operations, and referred in the context to head hunting practices and ancestry cults. For the first time a full and thorough ethno-historical investigation is presented, combining the study of early Indian written documents (5 - 12 cent) and Tibetan texts (11 - 20 cent) on the subject with field study and participating observation (1983-1994). The author, herself a practicing Tantrik Buddhist, relates the use of skulls and bones to rituals of the Mahayoga Tantra within Vajrayana Buddhism. On the example of five traditional ritual instruments made of human bones: Thigh bone trumpet, Damaru, Skull cup, prayer beads and bone ornaments, she explains the philosophical ground, application and aim of the technology, functions and symbolism of Tibetan `bone lore`, including relics, sacred mummies and the practice of mummification in Tibet. Spiced with autobiographical accounts this book gives a rare ethno-historical insight into the magical mysteries of Tibet. Whoever wants to know about trance-runners, skull oracles or how to fabricate a cloak of invisibility may find here the answers. Printed Pages: 253. 110348

Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2009; 8120834143; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The Treasure tradition of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism is richly permeated with wonder and controversy. This unique, mysterious tradition embraces revelation as the primary path to spiritual awakening. Over the course of Tibetan history, revelations-known as Treasures (gter ma) - have been discovered hidden in nature or have emerged directly from the great minds of the Nyingma School, creating a profound and lasting effect on Tibetan religious society and culture. Tibetan Treasure Literature discusses central themes and personalities in the history and practice of Tibetan Treasure revelation. In particular, this book presents the first through survey of the revelations of the great visionary master Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa (1829-1870). Chokgyur Lingpa was a prominent member of the famed ecumenical (ris med) tradition and his revelations are widely practiced today in many schools and traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Particular emphasis is placed on his revelations of Tibetan Buddhism. Particular emphasis is placed on his revelations pertaining to the wrathful deity Vajrakilaya. Translations of selected texts are presented together with a detailed commentary on their practice composed by Khenpo Rinchen Namgyal (nineteenth century), one of Chokgyur Lingpa's foremost students. Also included is a translation of the renowned master Ju Mipham's (1846-1912) discussion of the criteria for evaluation the authenticity of those beings who claim to have revealed such Treasures of Buddhist teaching.Printed Pages: 245. 102426

Imperial Delhi: The British Capital of the Indian Empire
Prestel; Germany; 2002; 3791327887; First Edition; Hardbound; New; New; 24 Cms x 30 Cms
Designated by King George V to replace Calcutta as capital of British India, New Delhi was constructed between 1912 and 1929 under the steady eye of architect Sir Edward Lutyens who sought to bring to this British Colony a sense of classicism, order, and institutional beauty. Brimming with more than 300 color and black and white illustrations, plans and photographs, this book presents the most comprehensive examination to date of how this city was envisioned, planned and constructed. From the massive war memorial arch to the spacious gardens and the gloriously imposing Viceroy's House, the evidence of Lutyens' architectural genius is everywhere throughout New Delhi. Architectural historian Andreas Volwahsen discusses the importance of Lutyens' work and provides a fascinating account of the making of a city: the contentious debates and cultural considerations, the inspiration and the painstaking construction, and finally the ways in which New Delhi has evolved into a modern city. With the growing interest in the preservation of historic sites worldwide, this magnificently detailed yet highly accessible history is certain to become a classic in the fields of architecture and urban design. Splendours of Imperial India: British Architecture in the 18th and 19th Centuries
Prestel; Germany; 2004; 3791330454; First Edition; Hard Cover with a Slipcase; New; New; 25 Cms x 31 Cms
An illustrated survey of British colonial architecture that once dominated the landscape of the Indian subcontinent, this book tells a rich and complicated history of imperialism. One of the most revealing legacies of Britain's long history in India is the colonial architecture from the two centuries preceding the struggle for independence. Built to house both occupiers and occupied alike, these imposing buildings, including palaces, mansions, clubhouses, and government offices, represented a hybrid of Western and Eastern sensibilities as their architects sought to plant the flag of British dominance in a foreign culture. Splendours of Imperial India focuses on India's towns and cities, particularly Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras, providing countless illustrations, sketches, and photographs of the many impressive buildings and ruins that dot India's coastlines, hillsides, and valleys. Andreas Volwahsen's informative commentaries highlight the considerable achievements of these magnificent structures while offering insight into the stories these buildings tell about their own and India's history. Mountainous Sound Spaces: Listening to History and Music in the Uttarakhand Himalayas
Cambridge University Press; New Delhi, India; 2013; 9789382993322; Hardcover; New; New;
This book provides a perspective on cultural practice in the Himalayas that engages directly with the sonic world of musical production thus emphasizing how the invisible world of sound is critical to shaping imagined histories creating mythologized heroes and amplifying the stories of mountains and people. Together Garhwal and Kumaun comprise the present-day Indian state of Uttarakhand a state with unique histories associated with Hindu mythology immigrant communities from western India Gorkha conquest British colonialism and modern-day India. The book situates the reader within the history and geography of Garhwal and provides general information on a selection of instruments and sound structures. The reader is introduced to Garhwal’s aristocratic and colonial past as well as to the region’s folklore. The music of bagpipes echoes a colonial past by blending British regimental histories with contemporary folk traditions. Drum and trumpet ensembles echo the martial traditions of Rajputs and Mughals and confirm migratory histories between the mountains and the plains. Flutes echo the supernatural world of sprites and gods and become a potent symbol of dangerous love. The book also uses a variety of theoretical models to explore the ways in which music is described and explained in academic literature and mystic traditions. The nature of sound as well as its relationship to language is re-examined in the context of the Himalayas. It provides the reader with a framework for understanding how music is created and how repertoire is organized. In addition it moves the reader between the worlds of epic performance and contemporary practice giving a sense for disparate sites of musical production and performance.Printed Pages: 198. 101490

Times Group Books; New Delhi, India; 2008; 8189766759; First Edition; Softcover; New;
At just twelve years of age Iqbal Masih was gunned down by an assassin. Iqbal was sold by his parents to a carpet factory owner at the age of four. It was six long years before he succeeded in escaping the clutches of his tyrannical master. A young boy alone in the world, surviving off foraged scraps, he stumbled across a Bonded Labour Liberation Front rally. The organisation took him in, and he began tirelessly working to spread the word to other enslaved children that they too could be free. Iqbal participated in raids on illegal factories and addressed international conventions. He was awarded the Reebok 'Youth in Action' award and a scholarship to study law in Boston. But before he could start to enjoy the results of his hard work, his life was cut short by a hail of bullets from the gun of an unknown sympathiser with the carpet masters. Heart Yoga: The Sacred Marriage of Yoga and Mysticism
North Atlantic Books/TBI; New Delhi, India; 2010; 1556438974; Softcover; New; 18 x 23 Cm
In Heart Yoga, renowned spiritual writer and Sacred Activist Andrew Harvey and longtime yoga teacher Karuna Erickson present a vision of hatha yoga practice that links ancient spiritual traditions to contemporary life. Including excerpts of poetic sacred writing from mystical sages through the ages, the book reminds readers that the purpose of yoga is not to improve one’s physical health or even to achieve peace of mind (although these results may be achieved along the way), but to reach a state of unity with the divine, the goal of mystics from all traditions. With detailed descriptions and photographs of fifty yoga poses and their alchemical effects on the body and consciousness, Heart Yoga presents yoga as a simple meditative practice that enables the practitioner to dwell in the heart and experience the bliss of union with the sacred power underlying all of life. The book explains how to prepare for Heart Yoga and describes the “Five Great Joys” that are part of the path. Included are the authors’ own compelling stories of their individual journeys along the path of yoga: stories of suffering, transcendence, and joy that both inspire and enlighten. Preparing to Die: Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition
Snow Lion Publications; Ithaca, New York, USA; 2013; 1559394080; First Edition; Paperback; New; 16 x 24 Cm
We all face death, but how many of us are actually ready for it? Whether our own death or that of a loved one comes first, how prepared are we, spiritually or practically? In Preparing to Die, Andrew Holecek presents a wide array of resources to help the reader address this unfinished business. Part One shows how to prepare one's mind and how to help others, before, during, and after death. The author explains how spiritual preparation for death can completely transform our relationship to the end of life, dissolving our fear and helping us to feel open and receptive to letting go in the dying process. Daily meditation practices, the stages of dying and how to work with them, and after-death experiences are all detailed in ways that will be particularly helpful for those with an interest in Tibetan Buddhism and in Tibetan approaches to conscious dying. Part Two addresses the practical issues that surround death. Experts in grief, hospice, the funeral business, and the medical and legal issues of death contribute chapters to prepare the reader for every practical concern, including advance directives, green funerals, the signs of death, warnings about the funeral industry, the stages of grief, and practical care for the dying. Part Three contains heart-advice from twenty of the best-known Tibetan Buddhist masters now teaching in the West. These brief interviews provide words of solace and wisdom to guide the dying and their caregivers during this challenging time. Preparing to Die is for anyone interested in learning how to prepare for death from a Buddhist perspective, both spiritually and practically. It is also for those who want to learn how to help someone else who is dying, both during the time of illness and death as well as after death. Printed Pages: 416. 037796

Lord Siva’s Song: The Isvara Gita
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2016; 8121513030; First Indian Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 16 x 24 Cm
While the Bhagavad Gita is an acknowledged treasure of world spiritual literature, few people know a parallel text, the Isvara Gita. This lesser-known work is also dedicated to a god, but in this case it is Siva, rather than Krsna, who is depicted as the omniscient creator of the world. Andrew J. Nicholson’s Lord Siva’s Song makes this text available in English in an accessible new translation. A work of poetry and philosophy, the Isvara Gita builds on the insights of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra and foreshadows later developments in tantric yoga. It deals with the pluralistic religious environment of early medieval India through an exploration of the relationship between the gods Siva and Visnu. The work condemns sectarianism and violence, and provides a strategy for accommodating conflicting religious claims in its own day and in our own. Printed Pages: 244. 039738

Archaeological Theory and Scientific Practice: Topics in Contemporary Archaeology
Cambridge University Press; Cambridge, UK; 2001; 0521790603; First Edition; Hard Cover; Brand New; 16 Cms x 24 Cms
Is archaeology an art or a science? This question has been hotly debated over the last few decades with the rise of archaeological science. At the same time, archaeologists have seen a change in the intellectual character of their discipline, as many writers have adopted approaches influenced by social theory. The discipline now encompasses both archaeological scientists and archaeological theorists, and discussion regarding the status of archaeology remains polarised. Andrew Jones argues that we need to analyse the practice of archaeology. Through an analysis of archaeological practice, influenced by recent developments in the field of science studies, and with the aid of extensive case studies, he develops a new framework which allows the interpretative and methodological components of the discipline to work in tandem. His reassessment of the status and character of archaeology will be of interest to students, scholars and professionals. Contents 1. The archaeology of ‘two cultures’; 2. Science as culture: creating interpretative networks; 3. Archaeology observed; 4. Materials, science and material culture: practice and narrative; 5. Material culture and materials science: a biography of things; 6. A biography of ceramics in Neolithic Orkney; 7. Making people and things in the Neolithic: pots, food and history; 8. Before and after science. Printed Pages: 222. 009442

Christian World Imprints/B.R. Publishing Corporation; New Delhi, India; 2015; 9789351480723; Hardcover; New; New;
This 3-vol. work begins with the history at the time of Christ and St. Paul, moves through centuries till the end of twentieth century. The prime focus of this presentation is to outshine the importance of evangelism and religious education rather than providing mere history. In fact, the author wrote these short papers on Church history at different points, compiled them, and hence, these volumes.The work is unparalleled as it comprehensively covers biblically solid review of the Church history and not just history of the Christian religion from a Roman Catholic perspective. It interweaves history right from the first planting of the Church, thereby, depicting condition of seven general eras of Church History from the time of Apostles. Inter-alia, Vol. 1 starts its voyage with the Rock Foundation till the Pontificate of Gregory VII; Vol. 2 begins with the Crusades and ends with detailing the scenario of the Council at Bologna; Vol. 3 outsets the Popish Refutation at first instance, then moves ahead to describe the state of affairs in ending years of the twentieth century with its last chapter titled `The Last Fifty Years', which mainly found removed from many printings of this elegant work.This ecclesiastical history equipped with Appendices and Indexes, aims to connect Christ and His word, so that the readers may receive the truth, blessing and grace, to their respective souls. This all time classic is a must buy for Historians, Christian Religious Scholars, Educationalists, Christian Laity, Church Clergies, Researchers and Students, alike. 106395

Transformational Grammar: A First Course (Cambridge Textbooks in Linguistics)
Cambridge University Press; Cambridge, UK; 1989; 0521347505; Reprint; Paperback; New; 15.5 Cms x 23 Cms
Andrew Radford’s new textbook is principally for students with little or no background in syntax who need a lively and up-to-date introduction to contemporary work on transformational grammar. It covers four main topics - the goals of linguistic theory, syntactic structure, the nature and role of the lexicon, and the function of transformations and the principles governing their application. The framework takes into account the major works such as Chomsky’s Knowledge of Language and Barriers written since the publication of Radford’s widely acclaimed Transformational Syntax in 1981. Not only does the present book use a more recent theoretical framework, but at the descriptive level it covers a wider range of constructions and rules than its predecessor. Andrew Radford is well known for his effective pedagogical approach, and in this book even more care has been devoted to providing a sympathetic and non-technical introduction to the field. At the end of each chapter are exercises which reinforce the text, enable students to apply the various concepts, etc. discussed, or encourage them to look more critically at some of the assumptions and analyses presented. The book also has a detailed bibliographical background section and an extensive bibliography which will be a useful source of reference to the primary literature. Although intended principally as a coursebook for students of syntax or English grammar, Transformational Grammar will be invaluable to any reader who needs a straightforward and comprehensive introduction to the latest developments in this field. Contents Prologue; Acknowledgments; 1. Goals; 2. Structure; 3. Phrase-markers; 4. Noun phrases; 5. Other phrases; 6. Clauses; 7. The lexicon; 8. Transformations; 9. WH movement; 10. Alpha movement; Bibliographical background; Bibliography; Index. Printed Pages: 640. 003112

Analysing English Sentences provides a concise and clear introduction to current work in syntactic theory, drawing on the key concepts of Chomsky’s Minimalist Program. Assuming little or no prior knowledge of syntax or minimalism, Radford outlines the core concepts and leading ideas and how they can be used to describe various aspects of the syntax of English. A diverse range of topics is covered, including syntactic structure, null constituents, head movement, case and agreement and split projections. Using Radford's trademark approach and writing style, the book is intensive and progressive in nature, introducing grammatical concepts and working in stages towards more complex phenomena. Contents 1. Grammar 2. Structure 3. Null constituents 4. Head movement 5. Wh-movement 6. A-movement 7. Agreement, case and movement 8. Split projections 9. Phases. Printed Pages: 540. 026202

The Riddle: Where Ideas Come from and How to Have Better Ones
Times Group Books; New Delhi, India; 2009; 8126520485; First Edition; Softcover; New;
Innovators are much admired but little understood in the business world. More and more, as information becomes readily available to everyone around the world through technology, it's what you do with that information that will set you apart. The question is, "How do you turn that information into innovative ideas?" Science has shown that it's possible to create conditions under which the mind is more prepared to have insights, or "Aha! moments." Andrew Razeghi explores this concept and shows how leaders and managers can foster creativity and make "Aha! moments" routine practice among their teams. Combining the latest scientific research, interviews with current innovators, and studies of history's most famously creative minds, he dissects the process of innovation and presents a practical approach which can help any individual or organization get ahead of the competition.Printed Pages: 256. 104896

From Asian to Global Financial Crisis: An Asian Regulator's View of Unfettered Finance in the 1900s and 2000s
Cambridge University Press; Cambridge, UK; 2010; 052116821X; First Edition; Paperback; New; 150 x 230 Mm
This is a unique insider account of the new world of unfettered finance. The author, an Asian regulator, examines how old mindsets, market fundamentalism, loose monetary policy, carry trade, lax supervision, greed, cronyism, and financial engineering caused both the Asian crisis of the late 1990s and the global crisis of 2008–2009. This book shows how the Japanese zero interest rate policy to fight deflation helped create the carry trade that generated bubbles in Asia whose effects brought Asian economies down. The study’s main purpose is to demonstrate that global finance is so interlinked and interactive that our current tools and institutional structure to deal with critical episodes are completely outdated. The book explains how current financial policies and regulation failed to deal with a global bubble and makes recommendations on what must change. Contents Introduction 1. Things fall apart 2.
