19601 Maharajaj Sir V.S & Rangarao Bahadur (Authors)
Hindu Religion
Concept Publishing Company Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1995; 8172680791; Hardcover; New; New;
Is Hinduism homogenous or heterogeneous in character. The variety in worship, usages and observances often detracts one from the quality of oneness in religion. The sacred writings of the Aryan people are the product of several ages intended for the propagation of particular doctrines, as they were taught from time to time by the founders of the several schools of theology and philosophy. One has thus to endeavour to evolve a rule of guidance out of conflicting statements and practices. This is the objectives of this book, translated from the original in Telgu. One has to consider the Hindu religion as a combination of heterogeneous beliefs. The objects of worship extend from the elements and inanimate objects to Siva and Kesava. But a common name, Hinduism, has been adopted because what ever may be the individual convictions in the greatness of particular deities, Siva and Kesava are, for all Hindus, the general objects of adoration. The book concentrates on four broad aspects of Hinduism: Worship, Observances and Usages, Practical Hinduism and Philosophical Hinduism. All beliefs, images, schools of thought and the mysteries of the Hindu heritage have been studied here in great detail. Printed Pages: 198. 112352

Romtha
Seagull Books; Kolkata, India; 2004; 8170462576; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New; 13 Cms x 20 Cms
'. . . one day, Sharan arrived. His virile body, his golden hair, the look that glowed in his pale eyes, intense, brooding-all of this threw her into a turmoil. Subhadra fell madly in love.' A beautiful young man condemned to death for a crime of passion; his lover, the beautiful courtesan whom he kills but continues to mourn and yearn for; and a lonely young widow burning with unrequited desire. This love triangle set in twelfth century Bengal, moving between the royal city of Gaur and the forests and rivers of rural Bengal, centres on the fate of the romtha, the branded criminal who awaits his own death. Ironically named Sharan-refuge-there is no refuge for the protagonist of this tale of passion, vengeance and the overwhelming hunger for life. MAHASWETA DEVI is one of India's foremost writers. Her powerful, satiric fiction has won her recognition in the form of the Sahitya Akademi (1979), Jnanpith (1996) and Ramon Magsaysay (1996) awards, amongst several other literary honours. She was also awarded the Padmasree in 1986, for her activist work amongst dispossessed tribal communities. PINAKI BHATTACHARYA is a consultant, teacher, writer and actor who lives and works in Calcutta. In the Name of the Mother : four stories Intro. and Tr. by Radha Chakravarty ISBN 81 7046 211 8 Fiction/Women's Studies Price : Rs 275 £ 9.95 $ 14.95 His mother's gone, there's no one to cook hot rice when it's evening . . . No one to say, 'Son, sit near my lap and eat.' 'Ma, from Dusk to Dawn' is the story of a woman from a nomadic tribe, catapulted by her circumstances into the role of a spiritual mother whose so-called mystical powers depend upon her denial of maternal affection towards her own son during daylight hours. 'Sindhubala' describes the anguish of a childless woman forced to play the role of a semi-divine healer called upon to save other people's offspring. 'Jamunabati's Mother' offers a stringent critique of a consumerist society indifferent to those on the margins and 'Giribala' presents the plight of a village woman whose daughters are trafficked by their own father, to pay for the house he dreams of building. The stories in this volume are linked by a common thread: the idea of the mother. They represent a range of responses to the concept of the maternal, exposing how the traditional deification of motherhood in India often conceals a collective exploitation and attempt to restrict women to their socially prescribed roles while denying them the right to articulate their individual needs and desires. At the same time, they also show the strategies evolved by women to survive and circumvent the repression inflicted on them by social norms. The maternal thus emerges as an ambivalent concept, with both restrictive and emancipatory potential Twist in the Folktale Jokumaraswami/CHANDRASEKHAR KAMBAR Pebet/H. KANHAILAL Charandas Chor/HABIB TANVIR With an Introduction by Ananda Lal ISBN : 81 7046 229 0 Playscript Price : Rs 200 £ 14.95 $ 20.95 'What could possibly ally a southern fertility drama from Karnataka, an eastern tale from Manipur about a bird family fighting a cat, and a northern story rendered into Chhattisgarhi about a truthful thief?' -Ananda Lal Each of the playwrights in this collection takes a folktale and turns it into a contemporary experimental play, intervening in the traditional material and reshaping conventions from an urban perspective. Although the folk and rural elements remain embedded in the body of the narratives, it is interesting to note the shifts and intersections which occur in the process of rendering folklore as a present-day performative text. Jokumaraswami by leading Kannada playwright and poet CHANDRASEKHAR KAMBAR is a vibrant, earthy play which creatively reworks the folk myth of a phallic god of fertility into a powerfully contemporary anti-feudal message. Pebet is a folktale about a mother bird fighting to protect her children from a predatory cat politicized by H. KANHAILAL, who transforms this familiar story into a struggle against the political and cultural colonization of Manipur. Charandas Chor by veteran playwright/director HABIB TANVIR, performed by Naya Theatre's Chattisgarhi folk artists, is a contemporary Indian classic depicting the irrepressible folk hero and 'honest thief', Charandas, a Robin Hood figure who charms his way into everyone's hearts. The Third Race Ashok Ahuja ISBN : 81 7046 247 9 Price : Rs. 400 £ 12.95 $ 19.95 The Third Race is a fable. At its heart is a little tortoise but this is not his story. It is a story of the river that flows as it must, in order to be itself. No, this is not a book of wisdom; only a chronicle of a journey. It is a tale of awe and of wonder, with a range of emotions, taking us across the thin line that often separates confusion and despair, from faith and hope. The central character of this fable is a little tortoise making his first long journey alone. His destination is the 'Source of all Stories' - his grandmother, the 'original' storyteller. He sets his sights on the sun and the stars, following their crossings while the sky and earth watch over him, lending their expanse to his eventful journey. His encounters along the way, with a bird, a fish, a snail, a flower, a rock… help us understand our place in the world. Through the dialogue between the past and the present, Time unfolds itself, laying bare for our consideration, many of the most fundamental issues of our time, and of all time. Ashok Ahuja trained as a Film Director, and has written, produced, and directed award-winning feature films in India. He has been a Senior Fellow in Residence at the Harvard University Center for the Study of World Religions. The Third Race is his first book. Printed Pages: 94. 000986

Healthy Living: According to Gandhi
Orient Publishing/Orient Paperbacks; New Delhi, India; 8122205739; Softcover; New;
A discerning selection of thematic essays on health & sustainable wellness by one of the truly great figures of the twentieth century.True health is a balanced state of physical, emotional, spiritual, mental and social well-being attained only by living in obedience to the laws of Nature.Illness is the result not only of our actions but also of our thoughts. More people die out of the fear of disease than the disease itself.Nature has given our body an innate capacity to heal itself. Our role is to help promote this process by removing obstacles to healing so that body can take care of itself.Ignorance is the root of disease. We often get bewildered at the most ordinary diseases, and in our anxiety to get better simply make matters worse. Our ignorance of the most elementary laws of nature and health leads us to adopt wrong remedies..."It is far easier and safer to prevent illness by observing the laws of health than to set about curing it... It is the duty of all thoughtful men to understand aright the laws of health... The object of (this book) is to give an account of these laws. We shall also consider the best methods of cure for some of the most common diseases." — Gandhi.Printed Pages: 160. 106677

Samartha Theory of Panini and Sentence Derivation
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1984; 8121501261; First Edition; Hardbound; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
Panini's Astadhyayi is a compendium of linguistic theories. Panini bases his grammatical description of the language on certain concepts underlying his sutras, but for which he could not have exhausted the description of the Bhasa. Here is the theory of Samartha pervading the whole grammar of Panini. The author brings out the original import of Samartha and explains the theory as a unique type of linguistic concept thoroughly useful not only for ancient Indian grammarians but also for modern linguists. The author has pioneered in demonstrating the genuine derivational process, defying the traditional texts in form of commentaries, and the present pedagogy prevailing in the universities etc. The author proves with internal evidences of implications and application of the sutras that Panini's Astadhyayi is basically meant for the derivation of the sentences, word-derivation being only an intermediatory step. The author incidentally brings out the language-theory of Panini which is found as an integrated system and not a piece-meal one. The book reserves for itself the credit to reveal the real stand of Panini as grammarian and linguist. The work is altogether unique and thought-provoking which will be found to pen a new dimension and to provide the lead to the modern mind with respect to the studies in Panini in the East and the West. Contentious Politics and Democratization in Nepal
Sage Publications; New Delhi, India; 2007; 0761936017; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
After the restoration of democracy in 1990, Nepal witnessed collective political struggles—identity and gender movements, public protests and strikes, and the Maoist rebellion.This volume examines the causes, consequences and effectiveness of such contentious politics, and their relationship to democratization. Contradicting the popular thesis that contentious politics generally promotes democratization, this topical book shows that some forms of contentious politics can hinder it, even as other forms strengthen democracy. It also suggests that the nature of activities—whether they are coercive or voluntary—lead to different effects on democratization. A timely addition to the literature on contentious politics, democratization, and Nepal, it will be of interest to scholars studying democratic politics, as well as practitioners engaged in nurturing fledgling democracies. Rise and Fall of Marathas
Vij Books India Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 9789385505126; Hardcover; New; New;
Marathas, a martial race, ruled the roost, in the entire country, for a good time. They even controlled the affairs at Delhi. Various works of scholars on Marathas have thrown a flood of light upon them. But the results of their research have chiefly been intended for the benefit of specialists or are limited to only some specific aspects of the great clan. Now, it is more important to explain to the world, through a comprehensive and a realistic account of Marathas’ past grandeur and the status, they enjoyed. It would be an injustice to belittle or ignore any aspect, whatsoever, while producing a genuine work on the grand subject. The targeted readership of this splendid work comprises one and all, belonging to elitists’ group or scholars, as well as the rank and file—researchers and students. Printred Pages: 304. 113728

Grotesque in the Fiction of Carson Mccullers
Discovery Publishing House Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2010; 818356643X; Hardcover; New; New;
Present work analyses the grotesque from a fresh perspective. Grotesque, which has been largely considered as a style, has been examined as a mode of expression as well as experience. An effort has been made by the author to establish that a writer of the grotesque exaggerates, juxtaposes, deforms and destroys Normal structures to give his content, his thought, his point of view, a new form, a new structure. Precisely, he structures his themes in his texts. It scrutinizes certain stylistic features and comprehensive Structural principles in the Fiction of Carson McCullers with the assertion that they carry the weight of the grotesque Meaning and experience. Like most of the other modes of expression, the grotesque is employed to see the World anew, which, though strange and disturbing one, is nevertheless valid and realistic. It is an expression of the problematical Nature of man`s existence marked by strife, radical change and disorientation, which expresses itself through various grotesque stylistic devices. Present work examines how McCullers has used stylistic Devices at three levels: at the physical, psychological and linguistic levels, to strengthen the thematic structuring of her novels. Selected Works of C. Rajagopalachari: (Vol. II: 1921-22)
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2014; 8125056130; Hardcover; New; New;
Selected Works of C. Rajagopalachari, Vol. 2, 1921–22, is part of a series of ten volumes that gather together the writings of Rajaji over the period 1907–72. The second volume covers a brief but significant phase in Rajaji’s political life, beginning with his arrest for participating in the non-cooperation movement in December 1921 and his imprisonment in Vellore Central Jail. Rajaji’s jail diary is published here with detailed annotations for the first time. By the time Rajaji was released from jail in March 1922, Mahatma Gandhi, by then his close associate, had been arrested and remanded to Yeravda Jail. The mantle of bringing out the nationalist weekly Young India fell on Rajaji’s shoulders. Through the columns of Young India,Rajaji kept alive Gandhiji’s message of non-violence and his emphasis on the importance of khaddar and the spinning wheel. Besides his various editorials and articles in Young India, the present volume also contains letters, speeches and other writings of Rajaji during these years. The volume ends with his spirited defence of the non-cooperation programme opposing council entry at the 37th Session of the Indian National Congress at Gaya in December 1922. Overall, the collection offers a close commentary on the non-cooperation movement and its aftermath.Printed Pages: 528. 101934

India's Wildlife History: An Introduction
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2006; 8178241404; Softcover; New;
The swift decline and present plight of India's wildlife make regular headlines. This book asks how we came to this point. It introduces us to the long history of India's wildlife, culminating in the present crisis. Drawing on memoirs, archives and official records, Mahesh Rangarajan brings new insights to bear upon age-old encounters between human beings and the natural world in India. While highlighting major figures, such as Jim Corbett and M. Krishnan, he also puts the spotlight on less-known conservationists, landscapes and species. The focus of this book is on key landmarks in the history of Indian wildlife—both its conservation and decline. Chapters on the Ancient and Medieval periods sketch out India's early wildlife history. Nature's retreat against human onslaught over the past two centuries, and efforts to reverse that trend, are then addressed in greater detail. The past can serve as a guide to options for the present. It can reveal strategies for a future in which wildlife and people coexist. This book ends by looking ahead and identifies workable ways to conserve India's vanishing wildlife. An easy and lucid style makes this illuminating historical account a book for the general reader. Specialists and scholars will find a mine of information within it. This book is the best available short account of the history of Indian wildlife.Printed Pages: 152. 101848

Nature and Nation: Essays on Environmental History
Orient BlackSwan/Permanent Black; New Delhi, India; 2015; 8178244594; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 22 Cm
Writing India’s environmental history is not easy. The country’s territorial vastness, geographical complexity, and unusual biodiversity make the task difficult. Relatively few scholars have shown the historical range and intellectual depth required to tackle the area compellingly and with sophistication. Mahesh Rangarajan is among the foremost scholars in this field. The papers and books he has written or edited over more than two decades have helped craft and enlarge Indian environmental thought as a whole. They have established his reputation as a stimulating and wide-ranging historian-thinker in the discipline. The present collection comprises ten essays showcasing the core of Rangarajan’s thought and interventions. They include comparisons of the subcontinent with the world beyond, most specially with societies in Asia and Africa once under Western domination. They also include studies of specific historical conjunctures under regimes such as those of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Jomo Kenyatta and Julius Nyerere. Environmental shifts and continuities in a massive Asian society and polity are the central focus of this book. It discusses events and processes to show how specific environmental changes happened. It discusses the global ecological dimensions of Indian transformations. Economy and ecology, state-making and identity, nature and nation converge and cohere to make this a book for every thinking person.Printed Pages: 359. 102270

Shifting Ground: People, Animals, and Mobility in India's Environmental History
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2014; 0198098952; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
Environmental history of India has developed as an important field of inquiry in the last twenty-five years. While providing major insights, the existing scholarship has primarily focused on drawing sharp lines of distinction—those between geographical spaces (forest, rivers, farms), people (herders, farmers, townspeople), eras (colonial, post-colonial), and so on. The limitations of these sharp divides are brought to the forefront when there is a critical engagement with the region's contested environmental past. Shifting Ground brings together an array of essays that pose critical questions regarding India's environmental past and the way it has been approached by scholars. From debunking the idea of a primeval, pristine forest cover, to analysing the dynamics that shape human-animal relations, to examining the conflicts created by post-Independence projects of rural development and conservation—this volume touches upon the various aspects of environmental studies and juxtaposes them with social history, history of science and technology, and history of trade and culture. Drawing on original case studies the book not only explores the past, but also portrays how its traditions are often invoked to be deployed in contemporary conflicts—those that are often aggravated by the pressures on natural assets created by the recent prosperity and the vaulting aspirations of a rapidly expanding Indian middle class. Nature without Borders
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2014; 8125056149; Hardcover; New; New;
This book explores the ways in which conservation of biodiversity can coexist with human actions and interests through a series of eight essays. These are tied together by an analytical introduction by the editors. It seeks to supplement the dominant discourse of conservation in India, which has traditionally depended on fencing off fragments of habitats and guarding them against human encroachment. However, formally designated Protected Areas occupy a very small proportion of territory and are therefore limited in value. Nature and natural processes transcend human boundaries and cannot be contained within the borders of nature reserves. This eclectic collection of essays explores inclusive conservation approaches in a spectrum of landscapes, from lake restoration in a metropolis to the issue of overfishing on the coastline. In the cases studied here, conservation action takes the producers’ or residents’ own imperatives into account along with wider ecological challenges. This method of conservation forges links with a range of actors: cultivators, herders, fishers and plantation owners, in addition to the government, the middle class and literati.Printed Pages: 280. 101931

Sri Hastamuktavali of Subhankara Kavi
Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts/MLBD; New Delhi, India; 1991; 8120808290; Hardcover; New; New;
Many texts on music, dance and drama continued to be written in different parts of India through the seventeenth century.Between the twelfth and the sixteenth century, regional styles emerged. Of the medieval texts Subha?kara Kavi's Srihastamuktavali belongs to the eastern tradition and is significant for its detailed treatment of the hastas (hand gestures). While there is ambiguity with regard to its origins, the text has been found in Maithili and in Assamese transcripts. It throws light on the language of the hand gestures which may have been followed in the eastern regions.The editor points out the similarities as also differences in the treatment of the subject in Srihastamuktavali, Na?yasastra and the Sa?gitaratnakara traditions. 101606

A Mundari-English Dictionary
Gyan Books Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2002; 8121207959; Hardcover; New; New;
Mundari English Dictionary is a by product of the master researchers and scintillating scholarship of Sarat Chandra Roy, whose anthropological work on the Mundas of Chotanagpur and Santal Parganas remains unsurpassed even till today. His compilation of about six hundred words of Mundari language in a note book contained the seed out of which this dictionary has flourished. On the eve of its compilation about fifty years ago, Mundari language was spoken by over 60,000 Mundas and other akin tribals. The dialects of the Mundari family of speech, to which Santa, Birhar and other tongues belong, are, besides Chotanagpur, also spoken in the Santal Parganas which adjoin some of the Bengal districts. It is on account of this geographical spread over of the Mundari family of speech that a large number of words from Bengali, Hindi and Sanskrit have crept into the fabric of the Mundari language. A lot of painstaking efforts have gone in coming the English equivalents of the tribal Mundari language. Despite a lot of transformation in the tribal world of the Mundas, there appears to be no depreciation in the value and relevance of his master dictionary for the anthropologists, linguists and administrators engaged in the onerous task of tribal studies.Printed Pages: 244. 106038

From Autonomy To Independence: The United States, Pakistan and Emergence of Bangladesh
Times Group Books; New Delhi, India; 2014; 9789325980426; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The emergence of Bangladesh in 1971 after a nine-month long liberation war against Pakistani forces was the culmination of a long-standing movement for provincial autonomy by the people of East Bengal that had started almost immediately after the creation of Pakistan in 1947. East Bengals sense of deprivation was the raison dtre of this movement. Bengali demands for autonomy coincided with the establishment of closer US-Pakistan relations in the early 1950s and American activities in the subcontinent had considerable bearing on the trajectory this movement followed.From Autonomy to Independence underscores the point that American policymakers, while aware of East Pakistans dissatisfaction with West Pakistan-based central ruling elite, were influenced by Pakistan governments propaganda that portrayed Bengali autonomy movement as Communist-inspired, petrified as they were of growing Soviet influence in the region. They thus viewed Bengali autonomy movement with certain disdain and suspicion, identifying US interests with a strong central government dominated by pro-American ruling elites.This book argues that American policy proved detrimental to the growth of democracy in Pakistan as well as the cause of East Bengals autonomy, for Bengali aspirations could be fulfilled only in a democratic system of government. It traces the fascinating journey of East Bengal emerging as an independent nation of Bangladesh despite Washingtons continued support for the ruling oligarchy in Pakistan.Printed Pages: 344. 104978

Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1981; 8170691222; Reprint; Hard Cover; New; New; 15 Cms x 23 Cms
Mahomed Kasim Shah Ferishta, a Persian historian was born at Astrabad on the borders of Caspian Sea in 1570 AD. He came to Bijapur in 1589 and spent remainder of his life under the immediate protection of Ibrahim Adil Shah II, who commissioned him to write the general history of the Mahomedans in India. Ferishta presented the first draft of his history to Ibrahim Adil Shah in 1606 AD and spent the rest of his life in revising it. In the introduction of his work he gave a summary of the Mahomedan Conquest, and also of the Arab conquest of the Indian Borderlands, Ferishta is reputed as one of the most trustworthy of oriental historians. His work has come to be regarded as a classic and still maintains a high place as an authority. The author, Ferishta is more divested to the feel of massacres of the defenceless Hindus than any other author of his own religious creed. Ferishta has brought more brightness to the general history of the Mahomedans in India. The date of his death is altogether unknown. Briggs supposes that it occurred in 1612 AD making him only forty one years of age. Printed Pages: 1588. 032973

Everyday Life in a Prison: Confinementt, Surveillance, Resistance
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2010; 8125038337; Hardcover; New; New;
Based on intensive fieldwork in a central prison in Kolkata, this book succinctly addresses issues in the sociology of institutions and organisations. It demystifies the image of the prison as an presenting a close understanding of lives and practices within its four walls. The book finds answers to such questions as: Is the prison a negative space? Does meaningful life cease to exist in a prison? Are there aspects of life of which prisoners are unable to make sense? What does the construction of meaningful worlds mean for organisational practice and goals? How do everyday life, organisational practice and goals interact, and what are the implications of this interaction for the nature of the organisation and the quality of prison life? The author thus constructs the prison as a space where inmates make meaningful social worlds that emerge out of despair.Printed Pages: 354. 101782

Yhdessä ilmakehässä: Tieteen huipulle ydinturman jäljiltä
Bookstore Tiedekirja; Finland; 2016; 9522227269; New;
Printed Pages: 240. 116662

Limits of Islamism: Jamaat-e-Islami in Contemporary India and Bangladesh
Cambridge University Press; New Delhi, India; 2015; 1107080266; Hardcover; New; New;
This book focuses on Islamism as a political ideology by taking up the case of Jamaat-e-Islami in contemporary India and Bangladesh. It probes at whether Islamism can articulate a politics of alternative in a world marked by capitalist globalization and neoliberal consensus; what happens to the promise and goal of Islamism in providing an alternative to capitalism after the failure of twentieth-century socialism; and if a religious ideology like Islamism can represent a politics of social transformation or can it only limit itself as a peculiar politics of resistance and critique to neoliberal capitalism. This book addresses how in a contemporary globalized world Islamists construct an antagonistic frontier and try to mobilize people behind the political project of Islamism. It deals with the Islamist critique of neoliberal economic policies and ?western cultural globalization?. Further it analyzes why Islamists are opposed to such issues as atheism blasphemy and sexual freedom. Finally it traces the contemporary crisis of Islamist populism in providing an alternative to neoliberalism.Printed Pages: 358. 101450

Yli kaikkien rajojen?
Bookstore Tiedekirja; Finland; 2010; 9522222011; New;
Helsingin olympialaiset ja Armi Kuuselan valinta Miss Universumiksi vuonna 1952 ovat painuneet suomalaisten kollektiiviseen muistiin. Tapahtumat olivat kansallisia ylpeydenaiheita, ja niiden toivottiin luovan Suomesta uutta, modernia ja kansainvälistä kuvaa. Teos esittelee herkullisia otteita olympialaisten ja Armin tarinan herättämästä vilkkaasta julkisesta keskustelusta. Paljonpuhuvien lehtikirjoitusten, kampanjamateriaalien ja mainosten pohjalta piirtyy oivaltava kuva kansakunnasta, joka vartioi tiukasti suomalaisuuden rajoja, mutta avautui samalla kohti yhä avarampaa maailmaa. A Little Mayhem
Westland Limited; New Delhi, India; 9789383260577; Softcover; New;
According to official records, a girl is raped in India every twenty-two minutes. Unofficial estimates put it at more like one every five minutes. That was just a statistic to me. Until they raped and killed my little sister. The police don’t want to pursue the case the media blame her and the men who killed her walk free. It’s time men like them learn that they can no longer get away with it. It’s time they learn the meaning of fear. It’s time they learn that a woman need not just beg and plead for her dignity she can fight and kill for it. I am just an ordinary woman but sometimes all it takes to get the ball rolling is for one person to create a little mayhem. 109628

Chronicler of the Undead
Westland Limited; New Delhi, India; 9789385152498; Softcover; New;
When there were still people around to talk to, I would introduce myself as a drinker with a writing problem. It sounded witty at the time, and certainly got a smile once in a while from the ladies. None of that matters now. There are no people left to read my books, and nobody left to listen to my attempts at wit.Now it’s just me and my notebook, sitting in my house on the hill, watching the undead rampage through what we humans once called our world. I sometimes wonder why I still live when those much younger, stronger, smarter and fitter than me perished. Maybe it’s just dumb luck. But maybe I am being left alive for a purpose. Nobody may have cared much for my novel, but maybe this is what I was meant to write. Maybe this is what I was meant to be.The chronicler of the undead.This is my story. 109726

Human Nature and Human Development
Gyan Books Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 9789351282228; Hardcover; New; New;
The book looks at different perspectives by different disciplines like Biology, Psychology and Philosophy for answers to the questions that have intrigued us: where are we, what are we, why are we here. How is the nature of the human being depicted by different disciplines and different philosophical explorations? Why is it important to know this? It is for a way to live our lives that enhances our own development. Drawing from Buddhist views, it comes to the conclusion that we have to recognise our connections to the rest of the species, our connections to the world and to the cosmos, treat all beings and each other with love and compassion and nurture the earth that sustains us.
