God Loves the Communists
Global Vision Publishing House; New Delhi, India; 2011; 8182203856; Hardcover; New; New;
The communist administrations around the world were modelled on proletariat dictatorship, but soon became the citadel for a coterie of powerful leaders who through the fruits of power gradually ensured that the control of these administrations remained in the hands of a favoured few. The proletariat began to be controlled by these coteries, and the administrations began to behave like the normal capitalist system, with a few more rigours and state controls. Soon the common people realised that they were back in the capitalist system but without the freedom of expression and competition. First the USSR broke up into separate independent states, and then the people in each of these states have been vying for individual expression and freedom of thought, to enjoy the fruits of development and modern technology. The contents of the original text of this book are therefore still relevant, despite the dismantling of the communist administrations and a gradual migration of these to free enterprise and open economies. Exposition of Vedic Thought
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1980; 8121502098; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New; 15 Cms x 23 Cms
The Vedas which are the treasure-house of knowledge are admittedly the oldest books in the library of mankind. They contain ideas which have set scholars to doubt if there has been a Social Evolution in the world. Max Muller has gone so far to say: "If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered over the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions of some of them which well deserve the attention of those who have studied Plato and Kant - I should point to India." This book reveals those gifts and the answers to those problems of life over which human mind has pondered over. What is mind? What is soul? What is consciousness? What is God? What is creation? What id education? What is reincarnation? What is death?-all these psychological, spiritual and cosmological Questions have been dealt with in the Vedas and discussed threadbare in Exposition of Vedic Thought. The special feature of the book is that it deals with these problems in the light of modern thought and compares the Vedic theories with those of psychology. For instance, urges have been classified in three groups-Puttraishana signifying Freud's 'Sex urge', Lokaishana signifying Adler's 'Will to Power' and Vittaishana-third urge for which there is no particular school in Psychology, but which has been consigned by Macdougall in the group of Instincts. Similarly, the Conscious, the Sub-conscious, the Unconscious have been compared to Jagrat, Svapna and Sushupti with a difference that whereas psycho-analysis makes a three-fold division of Consciousness, Vedic psychology speaks of the fourth plane of Consciousness known as Turiya. Exposition of Vedic Thought is an original and masterly contribution towards the enrichment of Vedic Literature. Printed Pages: 428. 002635

Love Sculptures of Khajuraho
Lustre Press/Roli Books; New Delhi, India; 8174370110; Hardcover; New; New;
The temples of Khajuraho represent the finest in the medieval Indian tradition of architecture and sculpture. Remarkable not only for the grace and beauty of their figures, but also for the erotica displayed on their inner and outer walls, these temples remain enigmatic in many ways: Why were they built? Why the erotics? Why such a large concentration of temples in such a small area? This little book attempts some answers, but most of all to prove that there is no questioning the beauty and artistry of the love sculptures of Khajuraho. Printed Pages: 63. 108624

Reconstructing Folk Psychology: The Indian Perspective
D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2015; 819261140X; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
Reconstructing Folk Psychology is the outcome of a research that looks into the possibility of locating folk psychological structures and issues within the domain of classical Indian philosophy. Starting from the concepts of belief, desire to perception and the consciousness of time and even the way in which we address ourselves, the ‘I’, the authors of the various articles in this anthology have successfully explored folk psychological notions as found in contemporary Western Philosophy of Mind in the Indian context. This volume thus tries to locate and reconstruct folk psychological issues within Indian philosophy, paying particular attention to the classical Indian tradition.Needless to say, each of the authors in this volume is an expert in his or her respective area and these collective reflections on the nature of Indian folk psychology are bound to enrich our understanding of the mind in Indian philosophy.This short but interesting book should capture the interest and attention of “who is who” in the domain of Indian philosophy and psychology. The Son of the God of Wind: The Exploits of Sri Hanumana
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2013; 8178223937; First Edition; Softcover; New;
India is a country of the people who are mostly religious. A large chunk of the population worships Hanumana. There is no village, town or city where there are no temples dedicated to Sri Hanumana ji. Truth is that the spirit of Sri Hanumana ji inspires, enlivens and energises the lives of a very large number of people. It motivates them for dedication, piety and service. Sri Hanumana ji keeps them unwavering on the path of virtue and discipline. Hanumana ji has imbibed the nectar of devotion for Sri Rama and has ceased to be an entity separate from and independent of Sri Rama. He is the embodiment of the qualities which Sri Rama personifies in himself. For the Hindus, Hanumana personifies the highest level of devotion to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Visnu. That is the reason he is held in such high esteem. The present work is the result of translation of selected stories about Sri Hanumana by late Pandit Atma Ram Sharma. Although the translation is of selected stories only, it makes a coherent and wellconnected reading.Printed Pages: 187. 102110

Vedic Yoga: The Path of the Rishi
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2015; 8120839765; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The Vedic Yoga is the ancient system of integral Yoga shaped by the Vedic Rishis. These Rishis devoted to a life of the Spirit discoved a certain line of development beyond the range of sensory perception by means of their strength of self-discipline, and achieved a many-sided inner progress. Whatever they achieved by their tapasya (meditative concentration) they then cast into a veiled language that they called Mantra. It is through these Rishis that the secret words of the Vedas were revealed. The Rishes had the inner vision to see the light of truth (rsyah mantradrastarah) and the inner audition to hear the voice of the truth (satyasrutah). They possessed both great spiritual and occult knowledge, the complete inner wisdom. This vision and ideal of the Rishis and the Vedic system of Yoga needs to be recovered today and given a new form suitable to the modern mind in the present challenging human situation. It is in this context this book throws much light not just on the ways of the ancient Rishis, but on the whole of the Rishi tradition from ancient to modern periods especially the roles of Ganapati Muni and Sri Aurobindo, both of whom the author has been connected with for several decades.Printed Pages: 362. 102015

Organizations need self-motivated persons for ‘excellence’. ‘Excellence’ oozes-out of processes - that run regularly through psychic & pulse channels of organizational ‘family-members’. Spouse Management- through scriptures shows the way. Fragmentation initiated by one single’s association with ‘other’ making unity escape lets humanity realize ‘life is n’t like that’. Researches in some developed countries reveal incremental rises in population increases in ? ‘divorce-rate’ up by 500 per cent ? ‘unmarried-women’s pregnancy’ 6 times ? average male’s sexual-relationship within a decade rising 8.6 to 12.7 ? every ‘male’ citizen’s average of 13 sexual-partners remaining static for 40 years . Cash-strapped girl-students sleeping with 1-7 clients ‘a night’ ? over a million people committing suicide every year ? a woman battered every 15 seconds ? 7,00,000 raped each year ? 35% beaten . a 41% population increase ensuing ? 560% ‘violent-crimes’ ? 419% ‘illegitimate-births’ ? 400% ‘divorce-rates’ ? 300% more children in single-parent-homes’ ? 200% ‘teenage-suicides’ ? after 9 years of international community’s efforts ? af-pak instability/turbulence increasing ? U.S. led coalition’s felt-compulsion to withdraw ? leaving the espoused in disgust ? premature withdrawal from own to move on to other’s spouse heavenly-planet drawing ? ‘terror’ ? destabilizing pak-democracy further ? turning Yahya Khans eastward ? repeating 1971 ? 1st use inviting indian vehemence / doomsday . Author’s losing a brother each to indian ‘partition’ / panjab ‘insurgency’ turned him to ‘scriptures’ for solutions . Lord-guru’s exhortations, mother’s nurturing & 14 years’ long labour-pains of author couple deliver this yet another indian baby / book to serve individuals & organizations on mother earth to reclaim / rejoice espousing through scriptures as a dimension of work-culture, satisfy own fragments’ intimate-needs, sowing seeds for abiding universal peace and solidarity through love and self-experience heavens on earth itself.Printed Pages: 496. 103335

The 4 Contracts of Meaningful Work
Jaico Publishing House; Delhi, India; 8184950209; Softcover; New;
More and more organizations and management scholars are acknowledging the need to find new ways to motivate workers and make them creative and effective. The traditional management models, which are based on best practices that were suitable for the industrial age, are no longer effective to take organizations to new heights and create fulfilling work lives for their workers. Hierarchies, bureaucracy, control, and processes are preventing the information age workers to explore and realize their true potential and help their organizations to grow to new heights. Workers and organizations are yearning for new ways to become creative, competitive, and most importantly meaningful and purpose-driven. Karmic, Inc. introduces a new management paradigm that goes above, and beyond traditional management thinking. It shows ways to fuel the growth and vitality of the information age workers and organizations. As the information age evolves to the new age of knowledge and wisdom, organizations need the tools described in this book to thrive.Printed Pages: 224. 105560

Economic Growth and its Distribution in India
Orient BlackSwan; Hyderabad, India; 2015; 8125059016; First Edition; Paperback; New; 16 x 24 Cm
After a boom in the early twenty-first century, India witnessed a macroeconomic reversal marked by a slowdown in growth that has lasted a little longer than the boom. At the same time, a fresh criterion of governance, namely inclusion, has emerged and become a priority for the state. Written against the backdrop of these developments, the essays in this volume represent a range of perspectives and methods pertaining to the study of growth and its distribution in India. The essays in Section I take the long view of growth in the country. They represent issues of abiding interest and provide the canvas upon which the rest of the articles may be seen as placed. Section II takes a macro view of the recent history of the economy. The essays explore the reasons for the shift from a regime of high growth and low inflation to one of low growth and high inflation, deconstruct the ‘dream run’ of the economy over 2003–08, and evaluate the United Progressive Alliance government’s performance. Section III comprises essays that study the economy at the next level down, covering its agriculture, industry and services. Another essay reflects upon the desirable space for finance in India, a topic that has assumed some relevance after the global recession. Finally, the essays in Section IV address the emergence into the public sphere of the idea that growth must be inclusive. Accordingly, the essays here assess the extent to which recent growth has been inclusive, approaching the issue from various angles. Assembling authoritative voices on the economy of contemporary India, this volume will be indispensable for students of economics, management, development studies and public policy. It will also prove useful to policymakers and journalists. Printed Pages: 516. 038351

Economic Reforms and Growth in India: Essays from Economic and Political Weekly (Readings on the Economy, Polity and Society)
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2011; 8125042717; Softcover; New;
This volume investigates the nature of economic growth in India, its pace over time, its relationship to changes in the policy regime and the role of the external sector, and uses data to evaluate the policies that have implicitly underpinned the changes. Presenting a range of approaches, views and conclusions, this collection comprises papers from the Economic and Political Weekly that are marked by an empirical awareness necessary for an understanding of a growth history. The articles reflect a certain groundedness in their approach in that they privilege content/context over methodology. The introduction outlines the importance of putting together the writings of almost a decade on the subject, explains why the issue of development is conspicuous by its absence, and presents this book as a complement to studies addressing a wider set of issues around the economy since 1990.Printed Pages: 468. 101821

The Seven Sisters: Kitchen Tales from the North East
Westland Limited; New Delhi, India; 9789384030674; Softcover; New;
The Seven Sisters: Kitchen Tales from the North East takes us on a journey through the villages, sleepy towns and burgeoning cities of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, culminating in the kitchens where families gather around the stove to cook, eat and celebrate life.As North Easterners from across India and around the world disclose both family lore and the secrets of cuisine passed down generations, we meet a daughterin- law who preserves the recipes she learnt as a bride in the house of her new family, a son who keeps alive the memory of his mother through the dishes that enchanted his childhood, a grandson on distant shores who sees the sunset of his hometown in the aromatic haze rising from his kitchen stove–and much more.Here we are led on a discovery of culinary delights and cultural revelations of an unsung region. There is more to food from the land of the Seven Sisters than momos, and, no, dogs do not vanish from their streets only to appear in kitchens, and frogs don’t leap onto the dining table! In fact, while much of the world has woken not so long ago to the wonders of slow cooking, seasonal products and a no-oil, no-sugar diet, in the North East, that flavour is a time-tested one. The smorgasbord has something of everywhere–from the killer Raja Mirchi of Nagaland to the simple delicacy of Pork Bharta from Tripura (cover image), to the mildly flavoured Chahou Kheer (purple rice porridge) from Manipur…Pick up this passport and newly discovered kitchen turf in the hills, plains and valleys of this colourful region. 109694

Jainism: Precepts and Practice, 2 vols
Sundeep Prakashan; New Delhi, India; 1988; 8185066183; Hardcover; New; New;
Brahmanic and Sramanic, these two religious traditions, fairly, epitomized the religious ethos of ancient Indian people. The former, in some form or the other, banks upon the Idea of God, and, consequently depends upon the Grace of God for achieving moksa or Absolute Freedom. Whereas, in Sramanic religious tradition. God is replaced by Man himself, and, for achieving Nirvana, one has to rely solely upon one`s own Grace. Jainism, very much like Buddhism, subscribes to the Sramanic view of man`s predicament and shows the way out of it. For Man of Today, using Nicfzsche`s phrase, God is Dead. Now, he must seek light from Sramanic view, while doing away with the Idea of God. Vardhaman Mahavira (6th B.C.), the last and twenty fourth tirthankara in the Jaina religious tradition, through his own efforts, without any aid from divine or human agency, discovered Kevala Jnana or perfect knowledge and shared it with his contemporaries, now preserved in Jaina Agamas or Scriptures, in Prakrit language. This book provides an ample opportunity for those interested in an authentic Jaina version of Sramanic religious tradition, worked out both in the background of western philosophy and orthodox Indian philosophical systems.
