Anpassning, förhandling, Motstånd
Bookstore Tiedekirja; Finland; 2009; 9515831784; New;
Printed Pages: 313. 115637

By exploring legal discourses, the book shows how in Finnish legal history, the formal and symmetrical understanding of equality has been dominant. Printed Pages: 277. 115629

Speaking Tiger Publishing Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2016; 9789385288357; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
In her powerful, poignant book - one of the best non-fiction works from India in recent years - Anubha Bhonsle examines the tangled and tragic history of Manipur, and of much of India's North East. Migrant Women and Work
Sage Publications; New Delhi, India; 2006; 0761934561; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
This volume is focused on Asian women who migrate either globally or across the Asian continent or within their respective countries in order to seek work. The contributors cover a broad terrain of issues including the changing gender composition of migration streams; the motivations of individual migrants; the different outcomes of male and female migration; and discernible patterns in the migration of women. The distinguishing feature of this collection of original essays and case studies is that it concentrates on ‘solo’ migrant women. The contributors show that even though migration involves moving away from their homes, the family, both as an institution and an ideology, constraints and shapes the choices of migrant women. Additionally, the case studies demonstrate that gender ideologies remain highly resistant to modification even consequent to a radical alteration in the household division of labour owing to women’s migration. On the other hand, women see migration as a way of achieving greater autonomy as well as fulfilling a role as a responsible adult. Overall, the volume argues that the structural ramifications of women’s migration extend beyond the lives of the migrant women themselves in so far as their labour plays an important role in shaping gender relations in the societies of both the migrants and their hosts. An important contribution to the literature on migration, this volume will attract the attention of all social scientists but particularly those studying migration, gender, family, labour, sociology and anthropology. Herätys kylässä ja tuvissa: Rääkkylän Oravisalon kylä ja renqvistiläinen herätys 1820-luvulla
Bookstore Tiedekirja; Finland; 2008; 9525031470; New;
Printed Pages: 287. 114582

The Buddhist Cave Paintings of Bagh
Aryan Books International; New Delhi, India; 2002; 8173052182; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 22 x 28 Cm
The Buddhist cave paintings at Bagh are renowned for their heritage of art. However, unlike Ajanta, they have not received adequate scholarly attention so far. The walls and ceilings of the Bagh caves were once a repository of magnificent classical paintings. The remnants of the paintings, though extremely scanty now, are an important part of our rich art heritage. The present work, with the help of earlier artistic and photographic reproductions as well as what remains now, attempts at a complete documentation of the Buddhist cave paintings of Bagh. The work has essayed the task of identifying the paintings in detail, thus it has interpreted fully the meaning of the main panel of paintings which had once adorned the verandah of cave 4 and which has long puzzled art historians. The work also attempts at aesthetic criticism of the a paintings correlating them with the canons of Silpasastra as also the application of modern critical methods. The theoretical background of the paintings includes the basic aesthetic concepts of rupa and rasa as also pramana and laksana. These have been analysed to shed light on the artistic value of these paintings. Modern aesthetic concepts have also been utilized. The Paintings of Bagh as those of Ajanta are a valuable source of information of the social and material conditions of The Times and as such have been placed in their Context of ideas, ethos and material culture. The material culture of the age including the textiles and styles of garments and ornaments have been reconstructed from archaeological as well as literary sources ranging from Asvaghosa to Rajasekhara. The development of Buddhist faith and philosophy which underlie the paintings has been analysed as also the historical background of Buddhist monasteries. The work would be of interest to students and scholars of art and aesthetics, Buddhism and Indian Civilization. Printed Pages: 228 with 72 figures, 82 colour & 13 b w illustrations. 100181

The Electronic Silk Road: How the Web Binds the World Together in Commerce
Cambridge University Press; New Delhi, India; 2014; 9789382993223; Hardcover; New; New;
On the ancient Silk Road treasure-laden caravans made their arduous way through deserts and mountain passes establishing trade between Asia and the civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean. Today’s electronic Silk Roads ferry information across continents enabling individuals and corporations anywhere to provide or receive services without obtaining a visa. But the legal infrastructure for such trade is yet rudimentary and uncertain. If an event in cyberspace occurs at once everywhere and nowhere what law applies? How can consumers be protected when engaging with companies across the world? In this accessible book cyber-law expert Anupam Chander provides the first thorough discussion of the law that relates to global Internet commerce. Addressing up-to-the-minute examples such as Google’s struggles with China the Pirate Bay’s skirmishes with Hollywood and the outsourcing of services to India the author insightfully analyzes the difficulties of regulating Internet trade. Chander then lays out a framework for future policies showing how countries can dismantle barriers while still protecting consumer interests.Printed Pages: 302. 101512

Ragas in Hindustani Music: Conceptual Aspects
Gyan Books Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2001; 8121202698; Hardcover; New; New;
Ragas, the expressional means of Indian Music are not merely the combination of notes. There are a number of conceptual aspects and various affinities in ragas which help in establishing every raga's character. The total Atmosphere of every raga strongly determines its mood, which in turn gives the aesthetic pleasure. So far, no author has attempted a single work on the concept of raga, particularly on the two phenomena of performing art, i.e. mood and expression. The present work fills that vacuum to a considerable extent in the area of Hindustani Music. These two phenomena have been studied with most brilliance and analytical attention.The salient feature of this book is that The Author draws her conclusions after having tapped primary source material and interviews with the stalwarts of Indian music. This volume is indeed a valuable source of information for music lovers who may have a quest for an analytical understanding of the conceptual aspects of ragas.Printed Pages: 200. 106025

Gendered Citizenship: Historical and Conceptual Explorations
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2013; 8125052844; Softcover; New;
Through successive historical periods, ‘becoming a citizen’ has involved a gradual extension of equal membership to more and more persons and groups. However, the promise of equality masks the exclusionary framework of caste hierarchies, gender differences, and religious divides, which determine actual experiences of citizenship. Historically, citizenship was constituted through a series of exclusions whereby large sections of people, (colonised societies, slaves, women and workers) were considered inadequate for it. Citizenship is therefore made up of multiple margins, but it also releases powerful new imaginaries and practices of citizenship. This revised edition of Gendered Citizenship (first published in 2005) examines the gendering of citizenship. In the context of resistance against the colonial rule, the language of citizenship that emerged in late colonial India was based on a gendered notion of the community—both national and political. Pulling in arguments on how the Indian Constitution transformed the idea of citizenship, it teases out the plural sites of citizenship which existed at this moment, and traces the forms in which idioms of citizenship endure in contemporary times. It explores in particular the landscapes of new citizenship which have emerged in the form of flexible citizenship with graded entitlements, as distinguished from spaces of stable citizenship. It proposes that a concerted effort towards an interactive public space can congeal into shared bonds of citizenship. This book will be valuable for advanced students, researchers and scholars of political science, history, sociology and gender studies. It would also be helpful to those studying social exclusion and the general reader interested in debates over gender and citizenship.Printed pages: 308. 101876

The Crisis of Secularism in India
Permanent Black; Ranikhet, India; 2009; 8178242567; First Edition; Paperback; New; 14.5 Cms x 22 Cms
While secularism has been integral to India's democracy for more than fifty years, its uses and limits are being debated anew. Signs of a crisis in the relations between state, society, and religion include the viloence against Muslims in Gujarat and the precarious situation of India's minorities more generally; personal laws that vary by religious community; the affiliation of political parties with fundamentalist religious organizations; and the rallying of sections of the diasporic Hindu community behind nationalist Hinduism. A crisis of secularism undoubtedly exists, but whether the state can resolve conflicts and ease tensions or is itself part of the problem are matters of vigorous debate. In this continuingly relevant book, twenty leading Indian intellectuals assess the contradictory ideals, policies, and practices of secularism in India. Scholars of history, anthropology, religion, politics, law, philosophy, and media studies here consider the history of secularism in India; the relationship between secularism and democracy; and shortcomings in the categories "majority" and "minority." They examine how debates about secularism play out in schools, the media, and the popular cinema. And they address two of the most politically charged sites of crisis: personal law and the right to practice and encourage religious conversion. Together the essays inject insightful analysis into the fraught controversy about the shortcomings and uncertain future of secularism in the world today. Printed Pages: 424. 033349

Violence takes many forms-trafficking in persons, domestic violence, rape, and harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation and honor crimes, it shatters the most fundamental human right to which every woman is entitled: the right to be safe. Refugees from Paradise
Penguin; New Delhi, India; 2004; 0143031309; First Edition; Paperback; New; New; 13 Cms x 20 Cms
`[Anuradha Majumdar is] an excellent writer…funny, quirky, poetic.'—Yann Martel, author of Life of Pi Refugees from Paradise addresses the ultimate mystery of our times: Does Paradise still exist? In Casa Mira, an unusual house of tenants in London, Jonathan Ferry, an actor and aspiring film-maker, is hunted by a story (like an aircraft, it `tilts inside his head every morning as he wakes up'). Meanwhile, Anjali Mehra, a television journalist in New Delhi, hunts after another on assignment. Their separate obsessions lead them to a village fair in Kenduli, Bengal, and to the Baul singer Krishnagopal, 150 years old or perhaps older, who once sang to a wounded pilot who fell out of the sky and into a jungle in Assam, where the mighty Brahmaputra roars like a demon. Where, in all this, is the road to paradise? Eventually it falls upon Milton, the venerable poet reborn as a cat, to detect a few remarkable things, and give us a glimpse of the grand design. Women and Work: Human Resource Management Perspective
Gyan Books Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1999; 8121206278; Hardcover; New; New;
Entry of Women in all types of workplaces have brought about new challenges for Organization Management specialists. Whether one likes it or not, women are the new workforce of the next century. The status of Knowledge about micro level factors particularly from Human Resources Management perspective is limited. This is also evident from the fact that the management-theorizing is Gender neutral, even though in practice it is not so. Restructuring women's role for allowing them to achieve excellence, competence and satisfaction needs attention of management thinkers. This book attempts to unfold these correlates of women and work through survey, data and Review based analysis. Emphasizing on need for a humanistic approach and need for looking ahead, an attempt has been made to suggest that management studies and Policy planners could think in the direction of an alternative paradigm.Printed Pages: 234. 105928

Social Responsibilities of Technologists, Scientists and Managers
Gyan Books Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1990; 8121203317; Hardcover; New; New;
This volume highlights development, Survival and growth of organisation and Society through auditing, monitoring and Forecasting of the impacts of Scientific and technological developments and Managerial assumptions.Social responsibilities of scientists, technologists, and managers has been the foremost concern of great scientists and social thinkers for many years, and this has often been debated through various for a and from different perspectives. This book highlights development and growth of Organization and society through auditing, monitoring and forecasting of the impact of scientific and technological developments and managerial assumptions. In fact Knowledge about technological analysis remains incomplete without understanding its Effects on people. Based on the contributions of scientists, technologists and administrators, this book brings out the socio-technical concerns for development. Like many other Books on the subject, this book does not take a negative and survival perspective. The set of ideas presented are neutral, developmental, Analytical and systems oriented. It presents a deep concern for value system analysis. Social Responsibility is still considered a fringe activity by average scientists and technologists. Perhaps that is the reason for lack of serious and systematic attempts to define the concept of social responsibility. This book mainly concentrates on the concept from the point of view of Science and technology. The ideas of this book are presented under two broad Groups i.e. macro and micro issues. The individual and organization concerns are generally classified as micro perspective and societal concerns in General are included in the macro perspective. The contributors draw the attention of Technical Education planners, Teachers and policy-makers towards a fresh perspective of technical education.Printed Pages: 191. 105735

Bollywood in the Age of New Media: The Geo-Televisual Aesthetic
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2012; 8125047557; Softcover; New;
Bollywood in the Age of New Media connects this filmic geo-televisual style to an ongoing story of the uneven globalizing process in India. It explains how the irreverent energies of the new can actually be tied to conservative Brahminical imaginations of class, caste, or gender hierarchies. Using a wide-ranging methodological approach that converses with theoretical domains of post-structuralism, post-colonialism, and film and media studies, this book presents a complex account of an India of the present caught between brave new silicon valleys and farmer suicides. The geo-televisual aesthetic will prove useful not just for scholars of Indian cinema and media, but also for those of Indian political and cultural modernity at large, from visual anthropologists to political scientists. The book is as much about the new globalized imaginary of a national elite as it is about film.Printed Pages: 272. 101860

Jamal al-Din-al-Afghani: A Muslim Intellectual
Concept Publishing Company Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 1984; 8170221501; Hardcover; New; New;
This work deals with the thought of a major Muslim intellectual of the 19th century?Jamal at-Din al Afghani (1838-1897), better known in the West as the author of Pan-Islamism. In the current debate on the phenomenon called Islamic resurgence, Afghani figures prominently as one who sowed the seeds of Islamic modernism and who, for the first time, made Asian peoples, particularly the Muslim West Asia, a ware of the threat of Western imperialism. Iqbal considered him the only modern intellectual who could reconstruct religious thought in Islam. Afghani?s extensive travels in almost all West Asian countries, India, Europe, England and Russia gave him a deep insight into the real maladies Muslim societies were suffering from and the imperialistic designs of Western powers. He was feared by the Muslim rulers of his times because of his anti-despotism campaign and by Britain for his anti-imperialistic movement for unity-imperialistic movement for unity of Muslim states to meet the Western political threat. Through his strong advocacy for learning modern sciences he paved the way for intellectual a wakening among the Muslim. His unconventional religiosity and radical political views made him a controversial figure among the Muslims as well as in the West. Afghani, even today, enjoys an important place in the field of religious and political modernization of Muslim societies. 112096

Abreeze blew from the northeast. The flames lengthened, almost leaving their wicks...the shadows danced on the walls...in the old stories, when danger loomed, there was always a god. his father's words reverberated as Aziz once again shifted his gaze back to the gentle light of the friendly fireflies. 'The Last Days of the Storyteller' is the tale of Pak Hassan, the village story-teller who carefully preserves oral history–the traditions, old world values, all that a story-teller represents–eclipsed by a modernising world with which he tries to but cannot reconcile. This is Pak Hassan's story until his dying day, told beautifully by Malaysian writer Anwar Ridhwan. Printed Pages: 208. 107245

WTO Negotiations on Agriculture and Developing Countries
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2008; 019569256X; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
The Doha Round of trade talks has been deadlocked since July 2006 mainly on account of differences relating to agriculture. If the negotiations eventually succeed in establishing a fair and harmonious agricultural trading system it will have far-reaching implications for trade and economic prospects of developing countries. To understand the reasons underlying the protracted stalemate and to assess the prospect of agreement on various proposals the trading community needs to be initiated into the intricacies of the WTO rules and modalities of the negotiations. This volume provides an authoritative analysis of the provisions of the WTO agreements and of their evolution and fills an important gap in the existing literature. The study examines the implementation experience of key members of the WTO and traces developments in the negotiations up to the recent impasse. Using India as a case study, the authors suggest ways of negotiating and strategizing for developing countries. They offer tough but realistic recommendations regarding market access, subsidies, special and differential treatment of developing countries, and other issues in negotiations. 021613

A Leap Forward: Capacity Building, Education and India-Afghanistan Cooperation
KW Publishers; New Delhi, India; 2014; 9789381904893; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
Since 2001, Afghanistan has provided New Delhi an opportunity to underline its role as a regional power. In the rapidly evolving geo-strategic scenario, India was forced to reconstitute and reassess its policies towards Afghanistan. India-Afghanistan Cooperation took a leap forward after the defeat of the Taliban and the installation of an Interim Authority. Indias main focus has been to support the Afghan government and the political process in the country mandated under the Bonn Agreement of 2001. In the past decade, India pursued a policy of high-level engagement with Afghanistan through wide-ranging humanitarian, financial and infrastructural project assistance, as well as participation in international efforts aimed at political and economic rebuilding of Afghanistan. India has growing stakes in peace and stability in Afghanistan and the 2011 India-Afghanistan Strategic Partnership Agreement underlines Indias commitment to ensure that a positive momentum in the Indo-Afghanistan ties in maintained. One of the foremost aims of Indias involvement in Afghanistan has been to assist in building indigenous Afghan capacity and institutions which encompasses all the sectors of development. This book, apart from examining the changing trajectory of Indias policy towards Afghanistan, focuses on two particular areas of Indian intervention in Afghanistan namely Capacity Building and Education. It also evaluates its importance in strengthening the Delhi-Kabul ties. Identification of factors that are aiding or blockading the smooth functioning of these policies, have been the purpose of this academic pursuit. Attempts have been made to reach out to the Afghan beneficiaries in both India and Afghanistan, in order to understand their perspectives, requirements and disgruntlements. This research underscores that the purpose behind Indias involvement in Afghanistan should not be defeated and thereby attempts to put forward certain steps and directions that can be adopted by Indian Government in order to achieve long-lasting dividends by smooth implementation of Indias aid disbursement policy. As US led North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces prepare to leave Afghanistan in 2014, India stands at a crossroads as it remains keen to preserve its interest in Afghanistan. This book apart from underlying ever-evolving Indian policy in Afghanistan provides concrete recommendations that can enhance the effectiveness of ongoing Indo-Afghanistan cooperation.Printed Pages: 212. 104286

The Tibetan Yoga of Breath: Breathing Practices for Healing the Body and Cultivating Wisdom
Shambhala; Boston, USA; 2013; 1611800889; Paperback; New;
Heal the body, quiet the mind, and find emotional balance with simple practices from Tibetan Yantra Yoga. Vibrance, good health, and longevity have one thing in common--they all begin with the breath. Modern science and classic spiritual traditions agree: regulating the breath leads to radiance and wellness in the body, mind, and spirit. The Tibetan Yoga of Breath pairs the teachings of Tibetan Yantra Yoga (breathing yoga) with select contemplative ideas and practices and examines how well they complement each other through the lens of Western medical science. The benefits of proper breathing are offered from the point of view of classical Indian/Tibetan practice, and contemporary medical research supports how breath cultivates physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Basic Yantra Yoga techniques--also called wind energy training--are the key practices for achieving this vitality, down to the cellular level. Printed Pages: 132. 037794

Desire and Defiance: A Study of Bengali Women in Love,-1850-1930
Orient BlackSwan; New Delhi, India; 2016; 8125062351; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
Power is the key element of patriarchy; and the other significant element is love. Traditional control over women’s sexuality was rearticulated in the mid-nineteenth century through the ideology of a non-consensual, non-dissoluble conjugality, based on the wife’s unconditional fidelity and loyalty to her husband. Intertwined with this control was the fear that women would transgress, fears that even led to a backlash against representations of women’s deviant love in novels, and attempts to prevent women from reading. Despite these restrictions, some women did follow their desires, in defiance of social norms.Desire and Defiance retells story of heterosexual love in Bengal from the woman’s perspective. Focusing primarily on upper-caste Bengali women from both Hindu and Brahmo backgrounds, this book explores aspects of heterosexual intimacy that were considered transgressive by upper-caste Hindu society. Resisting societal attempts to confine their sexuality, many upper-caste Hindu and Brahmo women married (or remarried) according to their own choice, or engaged in non-marital and extra-marital intimacy. However, as the book shows, such transgression usually led to harassment, familial and social ostracism, and severe social sanctions. The colonial bureaucracy, judiciary and media exercised control over women’s sexuality through laws and strictures, highlighting the way patriarchy transcended the divide between the public and the private, the coloniser and the colonised.Providing a feminist understanding of the high-caste Hindu/Brahmo woman’s varied and mostly unrewarding experiences of intimacy outside the bounds of normative relationships, this book provides a glimpse into the deeply gendered world of love. Interesting and informative, this book will be useful to students and scholars of women’s studies, history, sociology and culture studies. Printed Pages: 316. 108391

Mridula Sarabhai
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2003; 0195667948; First Edition; Paperback; New;
If I had a hundred women like Mridula, said Gandhiji, I could launch a revolution in India. Born in 1911 in the illustrious Sarabhai family of Ahmedabad, she came under the spell of Gandhi and left her palatial home to join the Salt Satyagraha. She was arrested and imprisoned several times between 1930 and 1944. Deeply influenced by Jawaharlal Nehru s ideas on socialism and secularism, and a close associate of his, Mridula Sarabhai was involved not only in the freedom struggle but also in the fight for women s right to equality, in civil liberty, and in the individual s right to dissent. She worked fearlessly during communal riots to protect the rights of minorities and restore communal peace and harmony. Her work for the recovery of abducted women in Punjab in the aftermath of the Partition of India is well known. The last twenty years of her life were devoted to Kashmir and championing the cause of Sheikh Abdullah. This is the story of Mridula Sarabhai s public l if e, her work for women, for the freedom of the country, and for Hindu-Muslim unit. She was a non-conformist who did not fit into the stereotype image of the Indian woman. A rebel swimming against the tide, championing unpopular causes, she spurned offers of high office in the political arena of national government. This biography, the first account of her life, is also a page from the social and political history of modern India, over half a century seen through the life of one person. Based on Mridula Sarabhai s private papers and numerous primary and secondary sources, the book should be of interest not only to students and scholars of contemporary Indian history and politics, but to the wider public as well. Aprthak Siddhibhava: (With Special Reference to Ramanuja's Metaphysics
Kaveri Book Service; New Delhi, India; 2001; 8174790497; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
Brahman in Ramanuja's philosophy is not a non-relational and non-differentiated bare being, but a living reality, a relational whole, who is inseparably related with the order of individual self cit and of matter acit. Thus the relation of inseparability aprthak-siddhi-bhava is fundamental to Ramanujas metaphysics. It is the central concept around which Ramanuja's whole philosophy revolves. Thus it is both possible and fruitful to view Ramanuja's metaphysics through the perspective of this unique relation of inseparability. In this book such an attempt is critically carried out. Contents (1) Introduction, (2) Aprthak-Siddhi and Philosophy of Relation, (3) Critique of Relation: A Critique, (4) Aprthak-Siddhattva between Brahman and Acit-Prapanca, (5) Aprthak-Siddhattva between Brahman and Cit-Prapanca, (6) Conclusion.Printed Pages: 131. 104181

From Chanakya to Modi: The Evolution of India's Foreign Policy
Harper Collins India; New Delhi, India; 2017; 9789352645381; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 22 Cm
Foreign policy does not exist in a cultural vacuum. It is shaped by national experience and a country's view of itself. In the case of India, the foreign policy paradigm is as deeply informed by its civilizational heritage as it is by modern ideas about national interest. Even policies that appear to be new contain echoes of themes that recur in history. The two concepts that come and go most frequently in Indian engagement with the world - from Chanakya in the third century BCE to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017 - are autonomy and independence in decision making. There are also four trends that we can trace: messianic idealism, realism, isolationism and imperial influences - ideas that have competed at one time and complemented one another at others. As India pursues modernity and seeks to exercise influence in the contemporary world, an examination of India in the context of its history and tradition is crucial. Aparna Pande's From Chanakya to Modi explores the deeper civilizational roots of Indian foreign policy in a manner reminiscent of Walter Russel Mead's seminal Special Providence (2001). It identifies the neural roots of India's engagement with the world outside. An essential addition to every thinking person's library. Printed Pages: 213. 114993

The Narrative World of Finnish Fairy Tales: Structure, Agency, and Evaluation in Southwest Finnish Folktales (Folklore Fellows Communications 256)
Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia (Academia Scientiarum Fennica)/Bookstore Tiedekirja; Helsinki, Finland; 1995; 9514107705; Hardcover; New; New;
Finnish fairy tales represent the northern branch of the Western European fairy-tale tradition. Although Finnish epic folklore and mythology have been objects of great research interest, Finnish fairy tales have been studied surprisingly little. This study answers not only methodological but also the most important empirical questions, such as: what are the themes, plots and characters which have been able to entertain both fairy-tale tellers and their listeners from one generation to the next? How can these contentual elements be understood and interpreted within the framework of traditional Finnish folk culture?The methodological issues dealt with here include the question of how to approach traditional folklore material recorded in the 1800s, of which there is an enormous amount but very little accompanying contextual information. In order to analyse the contents of the tales, this study suggests the use of several semantic levels of abstraction as well as the systematic analysys of variation; only then is it feasible to present macrocontextual, interpretive hypotheses in which narrative and cultural structures are examined side by side.
