Aryans Revisited
Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2001; 8121509599; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
This book on Rgvedic history underlines the need for considerable fresh thinking in Vedic research, rigorous stratification of texual materials, new methodology and discarding notional ideas derived from a selctive view of the data.The idea that the family books of the Rgveda constitute the earliest and homogeneous part of the text and that these represent the exclusive record of pastoral nomads is found to be too simplistic to meet the challenge of divergent and overlapping social processes. The book dispels the myth that the Aryans destroyed Harappan cities, that they were unfamilier with the high-seas and sea-faring and that the term Aryan always signified a fair complexioned people.Myths of a different kind resulting from bardic mix-up of unrelated informations also need careful shifting of data for delineation of historical or semi-historical episodes, related characters and geographical areas.Existing generalisations on polity also need questioning in view of valuable evidence bearing on territorial states and rituals legitimising territorial sovereignty. Elephant : Lord of the Jungle
National Book Trust/Sangam Book Depot; New Delhi, India; 8123716826; Softcover; New;
The elephant is the crowing glory of the jungles. This impressive creature graces our festivals, as well as religious and national functions. Tame and trained elephants are very useful to humans as they carry out their tasks with an amazing degree of understanding, though wild elephants can, at times, pose a serious problem. This book familiarises us with the one-homed Ganesha, the elephant in state of musth, the elephant with large tusks, the rogue elephant, and others. The Indian government launched a scheme in 1991-92 under which forests were reserved as national parks and sanctuaries to protect the animal from depleting in number. Printed Pages: 103. 108409

Language and Mind (Volume 1: A Western Perspective)
D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2006; 8186921346; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
This work is a collection of papers dealing with the problems concerning the relation between language and mind. It focuses on the recent developments in the philosophy of language and mind, particularly with regard to the computational approach to this subject. The computational approach defended by Fodor and others has changed the very concept of language and mind thus ushering in a new philosophy in recent years. But, not unsurprisingly, there has been a vehement opposition to this approach led by Searle and others which has exposed the limitations of computationalism as a philosophical theory. The controversy regarding language, mind and meaning between the computationalists and their opponents is the main theme of this book. Besides these differing ideologies the book also highlights the general issues regarding meaning, intentionality, necessity, a prioricity, etc. which have an important place in the philosophy of language. This is the first of a two-volume project dealing with language and mind. This book deals exclusively with the Western perspective of the problems of language and mind, while Volume II will deal with the classical Indian approach.Printed Pages: 350. 100415

Concepts of Reason and Intuition: With Special Reference to Sri Aurobindo, K.C. Bhattacharyya and S. Radhakrishnan
D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2013; 8124606536; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
This work is a systematic and critical study of two most important problems of philosophy — Reason and Intuition. The philosophical thought of the twentieth-century Indian thinkers articulates fresh ideas. Though they accept the metaphysical doctrines of Vedanta, one finds a good deal of originality in their world-views. The great thinkers are fully aware that unless they interpret and formulate the traditional truths in the modern framework of ideas, they would cease to inspire. There seems to be a distinct change in their views concerning man's existence in the world. The book embodies a fresh approach towards critical evaluation of some theories and gives valuable insights. It attempts to make relevant comparisons of the views of Indian thinkers with those of some of the eminent thinkers of the West. In the detailed study of Sri Aurobindo, K.C. Bhattacharyya and S. Radhakrishnan, the author shows, not only a profound grasp of the concepts of Reason and Intuition, but also the admirable understanding of other important metaphysical and religious problems. This book cannot miss the sight of students of philosophy, researchers and scholars.Printed Pages: 312. 100444

Samkaleen Bharatiya Chintak (in Hindi), (Fourth Revised and Enlarged Edition)
D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2013; 8124606609; Fourth Revised and Enlarged Edition; Hardcover; New; New; 15 x 23 Cm
This is the age of enlightenment. The contemporary Indian thinkers accept and practise the old values, traditions, and have paved the way for a new thought process in philosophy. And this philosophy is the product of an age of India's struggle against long and suppressive foreign rule, hampering the growth of our thought system. However, one could see a new synergy in post- independent India — a philosophical renaissance. In such a background, these thinkers propose positive, synthetic and integral world-views. The thoughts of contemporary thinkers are quite comprehensive and exhaustive because they are well aware of the Vedas, Upanishads and the Quran. On the other hand, modern Indian philosophers have reconciled between the Western and Eastern, and the ancient and modern thoughts. This volume streamlines the thoughts of Rammohun Roy, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Sri Aurobindo, Iqbal, K.C. Bhattacharya, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, M.N. Roy, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and J. Krishnamurty. It makes this book a good reading for the teachers and students of modern Indian philosophy, detailing the philosophical perspectives of popular modern Indian philosophers.Printed Pages: 448. 100437

Kalachakra Meditations: Based on the Discussion Between J. Krishnamurti and David Bohm in the Ending of Time
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8178222795; Softcover; New;
The entirely of the Buddhist mindstream, including all schools of its thought, have directly or implicity dealt with the subject of time as a casual factor in perpetuating suffering and emphasised the need to bring about a change in the mindstream to end psychological time. J. Krishnamurti, in all his teachings, has always talked of the urgency in attending to and coming upon an understanding of time as the core element of the factor of thought and has tried to make one come upon a perception of time on the element of ignorance. In that there is a fundamental shift from a movement within the method approach to an approach which consists of all methods to be hazardous. The present work is based upon an actual meditative processing of the author's memory recall, and will be of use to others in keeping a watch, attending to what their mind preceives and reaching out to an understanding of the mischief of thought in perpetuating the delusion of 'I'. 102196

Peace and Harmony in Daily Living
Zen Publications; Mumbai, India; 8190105981; First Edition; Paperback; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
Do you really know what you want most in life? Even if you have all the success, fame and money you want, and the good health to enjoy it - are you happy and fulfilled? Why is it that we all find ourselves seeking something more from life - all the time? Now, a modern sage points out that each one of us, at some time or the other, has a taste of what that is: an uninterrupted experience of peace and harmony. He also shows how we can achieve this constant repose in our ordinary, hectic, daily living. This is what the seeking - most evidently, the spiritual seeking - is all about. Thus, Ramesh Balsekar in his book Peace and Harmony in Daily Living raises a very basic question: Why should anyone seek ’enlightenment’ or ’Self-realization’? A simple examination of one’s personal experience will reveal that what usually disrupts the peace and harmony in life is a thought about something we think we - or someone else - should or shouldn’t have done. Hence, a massive load of guilt and shame for oneself, or hatred and malice for the other, is perpetuated. Without a lot of arduous effort - work, discipline, sacrifice, sadhana - without outside assistance, but simply by investigating one’s own experience, it is possible to get relief from this bondage. What mystics have said for ages, is here viewed from the perspective of modern living: that actions are ’happenings’ and not something done by someone. This understanding is what actually contributes to and helps us in discovering the state of equanimity and peace which we most ardently seek. Printed Pages: 304. 027893

Nuggets of Wisdom
Zen Publications; Mumbai, India; 2005; 8188071242; First Edition; Paperback; New; 13 Cms x 14
It is everyone's experience that the basis of daily living is facing life from moment to moment, necessarily accepting whatever the moment brings - sometimes pain, sometimes pleasure. The inter-connected opposites of pain and pleasure, along with the opposites of every conceivable kind, beginning with male and female, form the very basis of life and living; and, therefore, it is impossible to separate one from the other. What the human being wants is one and not the other - pleasure and not the pain. And this pursuit of one as against the other is the main cause of why religion flourishes, various god-men flourish, promising the impossible and leading to frustration. Printed Pages: 196. 016084

Peace And Harmony in Daily Living: Facing Life Moment To Moment, Being Anchored in Tranquility
Yogi Impressions Books Pvt. Ltd.; Mumbai, India; 2015; 818847956X; First Edition; Softcover; New;
Do you really know what you want most in life? Even if you have all the success, fame and money you want, and the good health to enjoy it – are you happy and fulfilled? Why is it that we all find ourselves seeking something more from life – all the time? Now, a modern sage points out that each one of us, at some time or the other, has a taste of what that is: an uninterrupted experience of peace and harmony. He also shows how we can achieve this constant repose in our ordinary, hectic, daily living. This is what the seeking – most evidently, the spiritual seeking – is all about.Thus, Ramesh Balsekar in his book Peace and Harmony in Daily Living raises a very basic question: Why should anyone seek ‘enlightenment’ or ‘Self-realization’?A simple examination of one’s personal experience will reveal that what usually disrupts the peace and harmony in life is a thought about something we think we – or someone else - should or shouldn’t have done. Hence, a massive load of guilt and shame for oneself, or hatred and malice for the other, is perpetuated. Without a lot of arduous effort – work, discipline, sacrifice, sadhana – without outside assistance, but simply by investigating one’s own experience, it is possible to get relief from this bondage. What mystics have said for ages, is here viewed from the perspective of modern living: that actions are happenings and not something done by someone. The Ultimate Understanding
Yogi Impressions Books Pvt. Ltd.; Mumbai, India; 2015; 8188479934; First Edition; Softcover; New;
The Ultimate Understanding, is, according to Ramesh himself, “a book containing the full essentials of the philosophy of Advaita, or Non-duality (Unicity). It is perhaps the most explicitly expressed book on this complex subject. What is the ultimate understanding? That there is no one to understand anything.”Recognized as one of the foremost contemporary sages, married and father of three, and a banker who retired from the top of his profession, Ramesh could be considered a householder Guru. In his latest book, Ramesh shares openly, poignantly, and with stunning humility, how a sage lives his life. Backed by the total conviction of the final understanding of a true Master, and at the same time presented from the perspective of "life as we know it", this treasure of Advaita is unrivalled in its unique conceptual expression of the highest Truth, delivered with fundamental wisdom, simplicity, and clarity – and with Ramesh’s widely-loved gaiety and humor. Ramesh elaborates his own concepts with those of his Guru, Nisargadatta Maharaj, the Buddha, Ramana Maharshi, selected Hindu scriptures, several Taoist Masters and Wei Wu Wei, all serving as pointers to the Truth, to the ultimate understanding. While the book is a compilation of such classic themes as the nature of the phenomenal manifestation including the human being, the concept of space-time, temporality and Intemporality, the Guru, free will and non-volitional living, enlightenment and Self-realization, the Impersonal Energy – the Source, Noumenon or God, and conclusively, ‘Consciousness is all there is’, Ramesh explicitly summarizes that ultimately what he is talking about is "the most important thing in your life: peace and harmony in your life.”A rare gift to anyone and everyone seeking insight into how life happens, The Ultimate Understanding is perhaps the pinnacle of Ramesh’s writing. The Ultimate Understanding,heralds the total message he has to convey. What else remains can only be the final understanding, the final Truth, the silence of Unicity.Printed Pages: 288. 103477

The Happening of a Guru: A Biography of Ramesh S. Balsekar
Yogi Impressions Books Pvt. Ltd.; Mumbai, India; 2015; 8188479063; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The Happening of a Guru is a biography of the Advaita sage Ramesh Balsekar. This anecdotal biography is dotted with glimpses into his life, from his days as a boy growing up in Mumbai’s Saraswat community, to his years spent in the London School of Economics. It follows his career with the Bank of India of which he became the General Manager, and dwells on his close interaction with his own guru, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. The book culminates with Ramesh`s own insights into the teaching of Advaita, of which he is regarded as the foremost contemporary exponent today. A highlight of this book is the crisp and witty, yet inspiring, essay by Ramesh on ‘How do I live my life?’ Here, with great clarity and simplicity, Ramesh puts across the basic tenets of his complete understanding of Advaita. The biography is exquisitely printed on Art Paper in full colour, and is complemented with photographs of Ramesh as a young banker, of his wife and family, pictures of his guru Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and unique portraits of Ramesh as he looks today… the embodiment of an enlightened Master.Printed Pages: 104. 103476

The Seeking: Seeking Spiritual Truths Over Three Days With Ramesh
Yogi Impressions Books Pvt. Ltd.; Mumbai, India; 2015; 8188479586; First Edition; Softcover; New;
Is there any such thing as free will? Is everything in life predetermined? Does God play dice with the universe? Questions that intrigue seekers of the truth, are answered with great insight, sincere earnestness and absolute clarity in Ramesh’s typical free-flowing dialogues, spiced with his delightful good humor, during the morning ‘satsangs’ or meetings with visitors from all over the world.Through his teaching, Ramesh exposes the sense of personal doership as the root cause of all suffering. He describes how the process of this simple understanding can lift the burden of a life of struggle, and the peace and tranquility that can arise when one learns to accept totally what life offers, at any given moment, with grace and ease.When asked how long it takes to grasp this understanding, Ramesh answered, “Three Days. Three Days!” So, here is a taste of a modern sage’s daily talks, over three days, with visitors at his residence in Mumbai.Printed Pages: 120. 103473

Let Life Flow
Yogi Impressions Books Pvt. Ltd.; Mumbai, India; 2015; 9789382742166; First Edition; Softcover; New;
Change, unceasing change which is the very basis of life and living, is what Let Life Flow is all about. Ramesh says that life is like a deep river, flowing incessantly, whereas the day-to-day living for most people is a preference for the security and stagnancy of the little pools beside the river.What happens in life is that the challenge is always new, but our response is old because it is formed on the past, which is memory. Experiencing with memory is one state, but experiencing without memory is altogether different. A new thought, an inspiration can happen only when the mind is not caught in the net of memory. It is only when the mind is still, tranquil, not seeking any solution, any answer, neither resisting nor avoiding, that it is capable of receiving what is true, that which is eternal, timeless, immeasurable. You cannot go to it, it comes to you; what liberates is the truth, not your effort to be free.Ramesh uses the river as an apt metaphor for his concept that no one is a doer but, rather, all actions are happenings ordained by the One Source, who some refer to as God. To perceive ourselves as the doers is like the river thinking that it is pushing itself onwards to the sea, or the sea thinking that the tides are its own doing – totally oblivious of the fact that is the gravitational force of the moon that is responsible for their ebb and flow.Printed Pages: 120 103475

A Buddha’s Babble
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071315; Softcover; New;
“A Buddha’s Babble is a true gem. And yet, ironically, it remains Ramesh Balsekar’s most underrated book. There is such deep wisdom hidden between the easy writing and the subtle humour of these pages...Every ‘yoii’ are not THAT. THAT is every ‘you’.THAT will always be there without ‘you’, but ‘you’ cannot be there without THAT.Unless this is very clearly understood, every seeker will want to be ‘one with THAT and will, therefore, be frustrated. What is to be very clearly understood is that every individual entity is connected to THAT Source. And the highest understanding is that every human being, in his daily living, must continuously remain connected to THAT Source and never be disconnected from it.The individual entity - the Ego - gets disconnected from the Source whenever he considers himself or the ‘other’ as the doer of some action, and blames and condemns him for some action. The connection finally ends when the body dies and the Ego no longer exists as a separate entity.In A Buddha’s Babble, Ramesh Balsekar uses pithy writing, telling parables and large doses of humour to get this point across. Such is the magic of his writing that no reader can remain untouched by its inherent wisdom. Printed Pages: 199. 111610

Calm is Greater Than Joy
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071617; Softcover; New;
Calm Is Greater Than Joy describes how the man of understanding lives his life without the sense of separation (without seeing the manifestation as the face of an enemy). The Sage is in perfect harmony with whatever happens in the manifestation. He is able to use his working mind because the ‘me’ mind, the thinking mind, has merged into the Heart. Here four renowned Masters describe how they are able to live in samsara (in the eye of the storm) in total peace without isolating themselves. Their calm is quite contagious because the mind in them has stopped creating problems; they have no issues either with God or with the society they live in. Printed Pages: 184. 111618

Celebrate the Wit and Wisdom
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071366; Softcover; New;
Understanding comes to different people through different routes. With some it scores a direct hit with wisdom; with others it seeps in almost innocuously through the subtle layers of wit, anecdotes and teaching stories. No one knows just when it will strike and how.Take quintessential wisdom for example.Ramana Maharshi says, "All that needs to be said has been said in Verse 170 of Adi Shankaracharya's Vivekachoodamani:In the dream state, even though there is no contact with the outside world, the mind alone projects the entire dream-universe of enjoyer etc. Similarly, the waking state is no different. All this [world of pluralistic phenomena] is but a projection of the mind." And then there is the story about Perspective.Bill was in the habit of saying "It could have been worse" whenever he was told of any incident. One day his friend John came to him, very agitated. "Bill, you know what happened last evening? Tom came home early from office and found his wife in bed with Dick; he shot and killed them both, and then he went to the police station and surrendered. How horrible!"After he had heard the whole thing Bill, as usual, said: "It could have been worse." John was furious, "How can you repeat your stupid remark even in these terrible circumstances?!" "Well," said Bill, "This happened last evening. Had it happened the previous evening I would have been dead."Come, celebrate the wit and wisdom brought to you by one of the finest Spiritual Masters of our time. Read and reflect. Relax and enjoy. Consciousness Strikes
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 818807103X; Softcover; New;
The abhangas, the spontaneous outpourings of a keen devotee, offer the very core of advaita. For centuries, the abhangas have served as succinct and direct pointers to Reality.The format of the abhanga is simple, easy to understand: a few lines dealing with a particular aspect of the Understanding, followed by a forceful summation akin to an arrow that embeds itself in the heart, circumventing the intellect. In some cases, the abhanga bursts forth when the arrow finds its mark. Shirish S. Murthy’s Consciousness Strikes presents, in the abhanga format, the quintessence of the advaitic teachings of a contemporary Sage. Ramesh S. Balsekar. Printed Pages: 173. 111622

Consciousness Writes
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071021; Softcover; New;
Can Spiritual Understanding be imparted through letters?It’s a long-distance love affair. The Master is in Mumbai, most of his disciples thousands of miles away. The Teaching deals with Advaita, or non-duality. And as the Teaching gently seeps deeper, doubts and questions sprout; and often, the only way the disciple can seek guidance from the Master is through mail. The correspondence that flows is truly remarkable since it is both subjective and objective, unique and universal, personal and impersonal. To the disciple the correspondence may denote letters from one individual to another. For the Master, they are merely words emanating from Consciousness to Consciousness. Consciousness Writes offers you the fragrance of Advaitic teaching and a rare glimpse into the Master-disciple relationship -- enveloped in the warmth of intimacy and the sparkle of Ramesh’s wit. Pointers From Ramana Maharshi
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071374; Softcover; New;
The Sage of Arunachala preferred to teach in silence. But when he did use words, he used few and he used them with telling effect. What struck you most about what he said was the authority of knowing that backed each word uttered.Though all of what Ramana said was rich with meaning, if one has to grasp the very core of his teaching, one needs to sieve and filter, doggedly staying focussed on the very fundamentals of what he taught. Even those who have read many books on Ramana Maharshi’s teachings will find this book different: focussed on the ultimate happiness as one’s very nature.More importantly, this book bring across points about Ramana Maharshi’s sayings which have not been given adequate attention and significance. To give three instances: The very thought of God is Divine Favour. It is by God’s grace that a thought of God arises in the mind. There is absolutely no need to hurry about anything: everything must happen only at the precise time appointed by the Cosmic Law.The ego of the sage is like the remnants of a burnt rope. Pointers From Ramana Maharshi brings you the teachings of Advaita Master Adi Shankara as expounded by Ramana Maharshi, distilled to their very quintessential understanding, by an experienced writer like Ramesh Balsekar. Seeking Enlightenment-Why?
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071250; Softcover; New;
Ramesh S. Balsekar has authored more than 45 well-known books over two decades. He has always had a uniquely individualistic approach to spiritual seeking and, in the course of his teaching, he has developed several unique concepts. For instance, what is the ego? He has clarified that ‘you’ cannot have an ego, from which you seek freedom. You are the ego, the separate entity, the seeker who seeks the freedom of enlightenment, and finally arrives at the successful conclusion that what he is actually seeking is freedom from his own sence of personal doership.Similarly, his concepts like the ‘working mind’ and the ‘thinking mind’, free will and predetermination being not opposites but complementaries, the difference between witnessing, observing and non-witnessing, biological reaction and egoic reaction among others have been found most useful by seekers and teachers alike, all over the world. The Relation Between I and Me
Zen Publications/D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8188071269; Softcover; New;
You cannot have an ‘ego’ because you are the ego: Consciousness identified with a name and form as a separate entity. The sage responds to his name being called; therefore, the sage has an ego. The ordinary man also responds to his name being called. What is the difference between the ego of the sage and the ego of the ordinary man? That is the core question. The answer is that in the ego of the sage the sense of personal doership has been totally annihilated: he knows that he is only a psychosomatic apparatus through which the Primal Energy functions and brings about whatever is supposed to happen according to the Cosmic Law. The ego of the ordinary man is impregnated with the sense of personal doership. The ego of the sage is totally free from the burden of pride and arrogance for his good actions and guilt and shame for his bad actions, whereas the ego of the ordinary man carries the burden of guilt and shame for his own actions and a heavier burden of hatred for the others for their actions which have hurt him. In the words of Ramana Maharshi, the ego of the sage is like “the remnants of a burnt rope.” Printed Pages: 86. 111676

‘It is not an action. It is a happening.’The daily talks with Ramesh Balsekar used to be an eloquent and delightful happening of the Teachings of pure Advaita (Non-duality). The teaching can be of use only if it helps you to live your life in peace.” Every conversation would be new and fresh, laced with deep insights and abundant humour.Ramesh, a Master of Advaita, taught for over twenty years, sharing with seekers how a sage lives his life and pointing to Totality with stories and anecdotes from life as it happens. With laughter, Ramesh himself would say: “For those with an interest in the subject, it’s the most beneficial entertainment in town. Printed Pages: 128. 111639

Enlightenment May or May Not Happen: Talks on Enlightenment with Ramesh S. Balsekar
Zen Publications; Mumbai, India; First Edition; Paperback; New; New; 19 Cms x 23 Cms
The whole problem is that the individual seeks enlightenment as an object which can bring happiness, or the cessation of unhappiness. But so long as there is a 'me' seeking enlightenment, enlightenment cannot happen." This book, and its sequel Enlightenment? Who Cares!, document the teachings of Ramesh S. Balsekar, as expressed in response to questions regarding the spiritual search and related issues. In conversations recorded during his daily teaching sessions, Ramesh repeatedly affirms the impersonal nature of life and seeking. As the spiritual search progresses, the seeker's identification with the fictitious "me"-entity weakens until there is no one left to care whether enlightenment happens or not. "When you come to that stage, it is likely that enlightenment will happen at any time." A series of humorous cartoons accompany the transcripts, underscoring key aspects of the teachings they illustrate. Printed Pages: 300. 017361

Sin and Guilt: Monstrosity of Mind
Zen Publications; Mumbai, India; 2002; 0929448189; Third Edition; Paperback; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
In nearly every talk happening daily in Bombay, Ramesh Balsekar reminds visitors that anything any sage has ever said, anything any religion or scripture has ever said is a concept. In a delightful and unique manner he shatters commonly held fantasies about Truth, about seeking, about how life happens. A teacher of pure Advaita, or non-duality, Ramesh is an unearthly blend of the utterly human and utterly divine manifesting as a brilliant spiritual Master. His crystal- clear and profound teachings are backed by his complete understanding that “Nobody does anything” coupled with his life experience as a top executive of a major Indian bank, as a huSoft Coverand, father and grandfather -- all lived knowing that it is all happening as God’s Will. For much of his full life Ramesh, whose Guru was Nisargadatta Maharaj, has been devoted to Ramana Maharshi, in whose spirit Ramesh welcomes seekers and asks “who is seeking? Leave the seeking to Him who started the seeking.” Printed Pages: 124. 018189

Arjun Palani has been fired thrice in his brief career; is he going to be fired for a fourth time? Instead of being fired, though, Arjun is assigned to a team of top managers that seems to be hiding a dark secret. Who is the man they are holding captive in the room on the top floor? Arjun discovers that, to keep his job, he has to fulfil duties his education degree didn’t quite prepare him for: procure ganja, kidnap a girl descended from warrior chieftains and confront the mercenaries of a private equity giant. India Revisited: Conversations on Contemporary India
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2007; 0195689445; First Edition; Hard Cover; New; New; 14 Cms x 22 Cms
In India Revisited, Ramin Jahanbegloo converses with twenty-seven leading Indian personalities––social scientists, journalists, activists, artists, and sports persons— to gain an understanding of contemporary Indian society. Jahanbegloo, an Iranian-Canadian philosopher and Gandhi scholar, raises interesting questions about the seeming contradictions of life in India: the long history of religious tolerance juxtaposed with growing religious fundamentalism, democracy being challenged by a persistent caste system, the Indian ethos of equality contested by the low status of women, affluent urban areas that contrast with the impoverished rural tracts, among other issues. The responses to these questions presented in the conversations in this book, present a unique and hopeful view of India sixty years after independence. Breaking new ground in the East-East dialogue, this book reveals that something more than economic wealth, political power, and technological ambition is needed to combat corruption, poverty, and inequality in India. This, for all of Jahanbegloo’s interviewees, is in line with the the social thinking of great thinkers like Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore, and the strength of the pluralistic Indian religious and cultural framework. 020893

Talking Philosophy: Richard Sorabji in Conversation with Ramin Jahanbegloo
Oxford University Press; New Delhi, India; 2015; 0199462887; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
In this engaging dialogue that moves effortlessly across interdisciplinary boundaries, Richard Sorabji expounds, with astounding clarity and candidness, on a broad range of issues such as the moral philosophy behind the concepts of just war and 'humanitarian intervention', whether it is possible to be a Stoic today, and whether there is such a thing as a continuous self. He surveys the four leading ancient schools of philosophical thought—Aristotelian, Stoic, Platonist (including Neoplatonist), and Epicurean—and analyses the differences in their approach to various subjects. Talking Philosophy is as much a recollection of Sorabji's childhood and his scholarly life at Oxford as it is a philosophical reflection on issues as varied and complex as whether animals have reason or whether Gandhi could be considered an ethical role model. The seventh book in the series of Ramin Jahanbegloo's interviews of prominent intellectuals, it provides a fascinating glimpse into the life and mind of one of the most outstanding comparative philosophers of our time.
