This book is the first in a series of volumes of the proceedings of the Global Buddhist Congregation (GBC) that took place in November 2011 in New Delhi. This was one of the largest Buddhist gatherings ever to take place on Indian soil and was timed to commemorate 2,600 years of Sambodhiprapti-the enlightened awakening of the lord Buddha. The delegates of the GBC adopted a resolution for the formation of a global Buddhist umbrella body; the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) under the motto "Collective Wisdom, United Voice". The IBC is a membership organization that focuses on the common ground that all Buddhists share, while respecting the rich diversity of Buddhist traditions and practices. Bodh the GBC and IBC initiative were convened by Asoka Mission, a Buddhist centre in New Delhi headed by Ven Lama Lobzang. He has held various public offices including being the founder and longest serving member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He also runs Asoka Mission Medi-Care Initiative providing critical medical treatment to people from the remote Himalayan regions of India and Nepal.Printed Pages:102. 102019

Symbols and Graphic Representations Indian Inscriptions
Aryan Books International; New Delhi, India; 1999; 8173051631 / 9788173051630; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
Indian inscriptions have been studied for their text and have provided a wealth of information of great historical value and importance. Symbols occurring in inscriptions as well as graphic representations have somehow not received as much attention, except for A Few symbols, in contrast to the study of symbols in coins, art, mythology, etc. Symbols and Graphic Representations in Indian Inscriptions is a study of these renderings in inscriptional text, considered insignificant by most scholars. It is a pioneering work in which the earliest symbols, the svastika, the symbol for Om or siddham, and various other symbols and graphic representations in inscriptions have been meticulously collected and analysed in spatial and temporal perspective. Analogous information as well as comparative material available in other representational media has been used to provide yet another perspective to the symbols and graphic representations in inscriptions. The entire repertoire of symbols discussed here has also been fully illustrated, adding to the value of the work. Printed Pages: 132 with 26 figures, 20 Halftone illustrations. 100215

16 Carr Stephen; with an Introduction By B.M. Pande
The Archaeology and Monumental Remains of Delhi
Aryan Books International; New Delhi, India; 2002; 8173052220 / 9788173052224; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The present work contains a description and history of every object of archaeological or monumental interest in Delhi; beginning with the site of the semi-mythical Indra-Prastha, the capital of Yudishthira, which dates back to the year 1450 B.C., and concluding with the tomb of the Emperor Akbar II, who died in the year A.D. 1837. Carr Stephen?s description is marked by accurate details and history of the monuments alongwith English translation of inscriptions whenever these are available. The importance of The Archaeology and Monumental Remains of Delhi lies not only in its being an earliest account synthesizing the available information but also as a benchmark for the changes in the buildings and their landscape. The work is therefore of outstanding value not withstanding the change in perception due to new material and research. The work which has long been out-of-print is being re-issued for the use of historians, conservators, tourists, archaeologists and also for the lay-readers. A fresh introduction and a number of rare maps, aquatints and photographs have been added which further enhances the value of the work. The unusual variety of the subject and the notable richness of illustrations combine to make this a work of endless fascination. 037993
