Jankiharana of Kumaradasa: A Critically Study (Cantos. 16-20)
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 8120809750 / 9788120809758; Hardcover; New; New;
Janakiharana of Kumaradasa is the first Sanskrit Mahakavya, so far as the extant literature goes, to deal solely with the whole of the Ramayana-story. Its further interest is that it was produced in Ceylon, showing thereby the wider world over which Sanskrit had its sway. After manuscripts of the full text of the poem in twenty cantos had to come to light in South India, what is now presented was the first systematic and critical study to be undertaken to the author and the text and its position vis-a-vis other Mahakavyas. In addition to the above study and the critical edition of the cantos which were at that time unpublished, the book offers an examination of the large number of extra-verses found in some MSS of the text and showing them as interpolations. 102590

3 C.R. Swaminathan (Ed. & Tr.)
Kanvasatapathabrahmanam, 6 Vols
Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts/MLBD; New Delhi, India; 9788120811283; Hardcover; New; New;
While the texts on a particular art or a group of related arts, provide details of the principles of form and delineate intricacies of techniques, the foundations of these lie in the articulation of a worldview in the Vedas, the speculative thought of the Upani ads and the elaborate system of rites and rituals enumerated in the Brahma?as. The Ka??as Satapatha, Brahma?a is the only available Brahma?a related to Sukla Yajurveda. It has two recensions, namely Madhyandina and Ka?va. It is for the first time that a complete critical edition of the Satapatha Brahma?a of the Ka?va recension, along with its English translation, is published. This edition takes into account for the first time the readings available in a few more manuscripts, besides those in the published edition in Telugu script. It is also the first attempt at providing a complete English translation. No doubt, the texts of the Satapatha of the Madhyandina and Ka?va recensions do not differ much from Ka??as VIII to XVI and Prof. Eggling's translation of the former is available. Still a fresh attempt at translating the latter portion was felt necessary as a result of detailed discussions with traditional scholars who are actively engaged in Srauta sacrificial performances. The remaining text will be appearing soon in the volumes VII and VIII of this series along with glossary and indices.Printed Pages: 2394. 101593
