Building in Cob, Pise and Stabilized Earth
Donhead Publishing Ltd; Dorset, UK; 1999; 187339439X / 9781873394397; Reprint; Hard Cover; Brand New; Brand New;
This fascinating study, first published in 1919 then substantially revised in 1947, was based on experiments undertaken by the author, Clough Williams-Ellis into the use of pisť de terre and other earth based materials. It was written at a time when traditional building resources such as brick and timber were in short supply, and there was a need to consider the potential for using alternative materials in construction. Whilst earth building has not developed significantly in the UK since this book appeared, the recent efforts of the sustainable architecture movement has helped to stimulate an interest in constructing new earthen buildings. This, coupled with an increasing awareness of the importance of conserving and maintaining our existing stock of earth structures, will ensure this work will be of considerable value not just as a historical document but as a practical source of advice and guidance. Contents: General Survey Pisť De Terre Adobe Stabilized Earth Cob and Chalk Mud Protective Coverings for Earth Walls Design A Successful Experiment Some Practices Abroad Index Printed Pages: 216 with numerous illustrations. 023124
