Essentials of Mahamudra: Looking Directly at the Mind
Wisdom Publications; Boston, USA; 2004; 0861713710 / 9780861713714; First Edition; Paperback; New; New;
What would you see if you looked directly at your mind? The Tibetan Buddhist teachings on mahamudra are known for their ability to lead to profound realization. Peaceful and infinitely adaptable, these teachings are as useful for today''s busy world as they have been for centuries. Written by the tutor to the seventeenth Karmapa, Essentials of Mahamudra is a commentary on Tashi Namgyal''s famous Moonlight of Mahamudra-a text that the sixteenth Karmapa had identified as the most valuable for Westerners. Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche recognized that Western meditators don''t just need to know how to maintain our meditation practice-we need to know why we should do it. Unmatched in its directness, Essentials of Mahamudra addresses both these needs, rendering one of the most advanced forms of meditation more easily adaptable to our everyday lives. 5 Je Gampopa (Author) & Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche (Comm.)
The Jewel Ornament of Liberation: The Wish-fulfilling Gem of the Noble Teachings
Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Pvt. Ltd.; New Delhi, India; 2014; 8120836987 / 9788120836983; First Edition; Softcover; New;
This is not just a text for beginners, but one of the primary Kagyu texts and of immense relevance and benefit to all practitioners regardless of what stage they are at. In addition to providing a step-by-step outline of the path to Buddhahood, the teachings on the innate Buddha nature can provide students with the confidence to enter the path, while those already on the path can find in its twenty-one chapters much to inspire and keep them moving along the unmistaken path of liberation. Often texts such as this with their vast scope are in parts necessarily quite pithy. Therefore, to gain clear understanding it is traditional to receive thorough commentaries on these aspects. However, due to their great length detailed explanations are quite extensive and thus can be difficult to receive. Yet, here we have the great blessings of a complete commentary by the great contemporary Kagyu master Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche in which he gives a detailed explanation of this text. "Here are presented talks by the unequaled spiritual friend, Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. These talks are especially wonderful in presenting the teachings so that they are easily understood and their meaning realized. It is said that if one practices the profound Dharma given here, now and in the future, one will become truly joyful." - The Seventeenth Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje.Printed Pages: 453. 102376

6 The Venerable Khenchen Thrangu (Author) & Ken Holmes & Katia Holmes (Trs)
The Uttara Tantra: A Treatise on Buddha Nature (A Commentary on the Uttara Tantra Sastra of Asanga)
Sri Satguru Publications; Delhi, India; 1994; 8170304016 / 9788170304012; First Edition; Hardcover; New; New;
The Uttar Tantra like many other texts of the time was written in very terse, compact language with extremely deep and subtle references which makes the text accessible to only an extremely erudite scholar. This book follows an oral tradition used by lamas for the last ten centuries which meant that every point was numbered, placed in a category, stated, restated, emphasized, and then summarized. Thrangu Rinpoche spent several months giving a line by line commentary on this Uttar Tantra. Had the transcript simply been typeset, the commentary would have been about 700 pages long and would have been very difficult to follow. So with the help of chapters, headings, and extensive elimination of repetition and categorization, the Uttar Tantra was brought down' to a manageable size which could be easily read by Westerners. A glossary and appendix of Tibetan terms were also added for the reader not familiar with Buddhist terms. A commentary have also been made so that the reader could read it without, it having to refer to the root text. The result is quite extraordinary. We have a complete rendering of an intact text of the period by someone who not only has studied it for a lifetime, but who has done the same meditative practices that Asanga did to REACH the realization described in the text. In addition to this we have Thrangu Rinpoche's line by line exposition explaining every word of the text. The covering of a text with this precision with the guide of Kongtrul's shastra which has to be one of the greatest commentaries on any religious text of this period is something which, has been available to only A Few rare individuals living over the past centuries in monasteries in Tibet.Printed Pages: 210. 101129
