This book examines on the basis of empirical studies, the Rise of terrorism, secessionism and Ethnic Conflicts in the Beginning of the 21 st century in the entire belt of Eurasia. Though the contributors of this volume have conducted independent Research work on each country, they have followed interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional approach. As a result of this intellectual exercise based almost all of them have come to the Conclusion that it would be too simplistic to say that rise of Terrorism can be traced to one single factor, i.e fundamentalism. There is no doubt that fundamentalist Theology is being used as an instrument to disorientate and distort the consciousness of the people. It is this attempt, which has given Birth to the shrill cry of Jihad in some of the Countries afflicted by this menace. But this is only the hard top surface of this phenomenon. If you peel off this hard surface, and do strip mining, you come across various layers beneath the surface. These layers include the imperialist Policy of 'divide and rule' in the Colonial period; accentuation of conflicts by the vested interests of the Cold War period; moral and material support including Supply of massive Military Hardware by certain foreign powers and above all the new nexus which has developed between terrorists, Drug mafia, illicit arms dealers and criminals. However, deprivation, poverty, unemployment and rising aspirations of the people provide a fertile Soil for these destructive forces.Third party interventions including military interventions on the pretext of Defence of human rights instead of resolving the crisis arising out of terrorism, cross-border terrorism in particular deepen it.Printed Pages: 340.
