The book contains biography, the conquest and administration of one of the prominent Indian emperors like Aurangzib of the Mughal dynasty.<-p>Akbar was the third in the succession of his dynasty and the first in his genius for government. In that sense, Akbar was the true founder of the Indian Empire of the great Mughals. His realm embraced all the provinces of Hindustan including Afghanistan.<-p>Whereas Aurangzib`s life had been a vast failure, indeed, but he had failed grandly. He pitted his conscience against the world, and the world had triumphed over it. He had marked out a path of duty and had steadfastly pursued it, inspite of its utter impractibility. His glory is for himself alone. The triumph of character ennobled only himself. To his great empire his devoted zeal was an unmitigated curse. Akbar`s dream had failed of its fulfilment. The heroic bigotry of Aurangzib destroyed those bright hopes of tolerant wisdom.<-p>He kept all his sons away, lest they should do even as he had done to his own father. Alone he lived, and alone he had made ready to die. He had all the Puritan`s sense of sin and unworthiness and his morbid creed inspired a terrible dread of death.<-p>Every plan that he formed came to little good; every enterprise failed. The total destruction of the Mughal empire was due to the fact that Aurangzib could not force his soul to desert the colours of the faith.<-p>The book - Aurangzib and the Decay of the Mughal Empire - was originally written by Stanley Lane-Poole, M.A. and subsequently edited by William Wilson Hunter under the title of Rulers of India (Aurangzib). Printed Pages: 212 with 1 fold map.
