This is a short practical grammar which would do for the Vedic language what the Sanskrit Grammar for Beginners does for the classical language. The present book is to a great extent based on the large vedic Grammar of the same author. The linguistic material of the Rigveda, being more ancient, extensive, and authentic than that of the other Samhitas, all of which borrow largely from it, is, however, considerably supplemented from the other samhitas. The term vedic is here used to comprehend not only the metrical language of the hymns, but also the prose of the Brahmanas and of the Brahmana - like portions of the Atharvaveda and of various recensions of the Yajurveda. In short, the present work, therefore, constitutes a supplement to, as well as an abridgement of the vedic Grammar thus in reality setting forth the subject with more completeness as a whole, though in a comparatively brief form, than the larger work. Printed Pages: 517.
