Since the dawn of philosophy the concept of the Absolute under different guises has occupied a place of supreme importance and unique significance. It has been a pivotal concept both in the Eastern as well as Western philosophy. The present study takes up for a detailed and comprehensive study of two philosophy. Viz., Sri Aurobindo and Hegel who are the representatives and exponents of the Eastern and the Western traditions respectively. Whereas Sri Aurobindo assigns credence to the supra-rational principle, Hegel lays accent on the rational principle and regards it as the ultimate. Sri Aurobindo's philosophic thought constitutes a fruition of vedic and Upanishadic principles. Sri Aurobindo has provided a fresh approach to, and has thrown a new light on the ancient texts. He does not find any vedantic approach given prior to him as philosophically satisfying. He has therefore attempted to set forth an integral approach to the problem of the absolute.Printed Pages: 357.
