The exhibition, titled Sakti Burman: The Wonder of it All, supported by Pundole Art Gallery and the Apparao Galleries from Chennai and Delhi, encompasses Burman’s evolution as an artist. It features paintings from his student days – from the Calcutta College of Art and Crafts, when Burman was heavily influenced by the school of Impressionism and painters like Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh, and from the time he spent at the L’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1956.As Burman continued to live in Paris – he relocated to Delhi in 2009 – and travel around Europe, the infusion of motifs from Western art history is evident in his work as is the introduction of subjects from Indian myths upon repeated visits to his homeland.
